FDP on Functional Programming with Clojure

A 3 day Faculty Development Programme on “Functional Programming with Clojure” was successfully conducted at Vidya Academy of Science and Technology, Thalakkotukara from 20th – 22nd April, 2017 by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in association with IEI ( Instution of Engineers India) and CSI (computer Society of India). Mr.Midhun PG(Oracle India PVT LTD) and Mr.Sreenath N( Multunus Software PVT LTD) were the resource persons of the FDP. The Programme received an overwhelming response with 25 participants.

The FDP started with the inaugural function on 20th April at 09.30 am at Advanced Computer Lab. Dr. Sudha Balagopalan, Principal, VAST inaugurated the FDP. Principal shared her views with the faculty participants that attending such FDPs would enhance their skills of teaching concepts pratically and helps to improve the performance of faculty in teaching and highlighted the objectives and importance of organizing FDPs.

Ms.Sunitha C, HOD CSE, welcomed the gathering. She mentioned about the importance of Functional Programming. Dr.V.N.Krishnachandran, Vice Principal, Head, Department of Computer Applications felicitated the session. Resource persons also talked during the session and gave an overview of the topic. Inaugural session ended with vote of thanks by Ms.Aswathy MR, Assistant Professor CSE Department and the convener of the programme.

After inaugural ceremony, hands-on sessions on Functional Programming conducted at Systems Lab and following topics were covered during 3 days of FDP.

Day1:
Morning session: Introduction, Why Functional Programming and LISP, Setup environment
Afternoon session: Introduction to REPL & REPL driven developments. Clojure language basics and overview. Hands-on exercises.

Day2:
Morning session: Previous days review, Core functions, Introduction to namespaces and code organisations.
Afternoon session: How Clojure runs your code, writing Macros, Hands-on exercises.

Day3:
Morning session: Previous days review, Concurrent and parallel programming, Clojure concurrency primitives.
Afternoon session: Hands-on project.

FDP ended with the valedictory function. Ms.Sunitha C, HOD CSE, distributed certificates to resource persons and participants. Mr.Sivadasan E.T, Associate Professor, CSE department, congratulated co-ordinators of FDP for the smooth conduct and thanked the resource persons for spending thier valuable time for the participants. Ms. Beena MV, Assistant Professor CSE department give away vote of thanks. Valedictory function ended up with the photo session.
