Two-day FDP with hands-on experience on mvision KEIL IDE and ARM micro-controllers

The Association of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Department of ECE, Vidya Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) organized a „Two-Day Faculty Development Programme with Hands-on Experience on ?Vision Keil IDE & ARM Microcontrollers” in association with ISTE (Indian Society for Technical Education), IE(I) (Institution of Engineers (India)), IETE (The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers) and IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers on 26 th and 27th September 2014. The inaugural ceremony of the workshop was conducted in VLSI Lab, ECE Dept. on 26th September 2014 at 9.30 AM. The inaugural function began with a prayer. Mr. Rakesh V.S. (Asst. Prof, ECE Dept.) gave the welcome address. Dr. S. Swapna Kumar (Professor & Head, ECE Dept.) as the president of the function addressed the importance of workshop and the future of Embedded System. Dr. Sudha Balagopalan (Principal, VAST) officially inaugurated the FDP by lighting the lamp. Dr. P. Pratapathachandran Nair (Prof. Emeritus, ECE Dept., VAST), Dr. T.N.P. Nambiar (Senior Professor (PG), EEE Dept., VAST) and Dr. V.N. Krishnachandran (Vice Principal, VAST) felicitated the event and Mrs. Divya Unni (Asst. Prof, ECE Dept.) has delivered the vote of thanks.
The resource persons of the FDP, Mr. D. Kannan (Regional Manager), Mr. Gowda Nitin (ARM Product Specialist) and Mr. R. Senrayaperumal (Field Application Engineer, KEIL Products), from EMBEDDED SYSTEM SOLUTIONS Pvt. Ltd., Chennai attended the inaugural function. After the inaugural function, Mr. D. Kannan delivered an introductory lecture over the theme „?VISION KEIL IDE for Embedded System Design?. The lecture was around 1 hour duration and it covered topics like General Characteristics of Embedded Systems, Software Development Tools, Current Trends, and Future Developments.

Mr. Gowda Nitin delivered a brief lecture on the basics of Microcontroller architecture, Compilers, Debugger etc. Then „Embedded-C programming? on KEIL IDE software started. The resource person introduced the software and debugger tool to the participants. A simple application program for blinking an LED was explained to the participants and they were allowed to write and compile their own program code on KEIL IDE. Then, all theparticipants were allowed to do the procedures explained by the resource person on an 8051Microcontroller trainer kit, for watching the output real-time on the hardware board. Mr. R.Senrayaperumal, Mr. Rakesh V.S. and Mr. Anil P. Sreenivasan (Lab Assistant, ECE Dept.)has given guidance and help to the participants in doing the experiments. On the second dayof the workshop (27th September 2013), the hands-on training sessions continued ARM-7 andARM-9 Development Board respectively. All the participants have successfully done theexperiments hands-on on the Development Boards and saw the real-time output on the board.In the valedictory function, Mr. Kishore (Asst. Prof ECE Dept., Malabar College of Engg.and Technology) spoke about his experience in the workshop. He congratulated theorganizers and resource persons for making the event informative. Dr. S. Swapna Kumardistributed certificates to the participants and he honored the resource persons by giving a memento as token of gratitude.
