One Day Workshop on “MODERN MANUFACTURING TRENDS IN ENGINEERING”

The inaugural session of the one Day Workshop on “MODERN MANUFACTURING TRENDS IN ENGINEERING” for the polytechnic students in and around Thrissur was held on 18 March, 2017 Saturday in the Language Lab. The program was organized by PE dept, as part of the decennial celebration of the PE dept. and also to fulfill the vison of VICT. The inaugural ceremony was attended by the 26 students from Govt. Polytechnic, Kunnamkulam & Thiagarajar Polytechnic, Amballur, HODs, teaching and non-teaching staff members and S4 PE B.Tech students. The programme was enlightened by seeking the blessings of the almighty in presence of following dignitaries.

Welcome address was delivered by Prof. T K Rajendran (HOD, Dept. of Production Engineering, VAST). He welcomed everyone to the “VAST” and summarized the workshop schedule. Dr. Sudha Balagopalan, (Principal, VAST) addressed the gathering and gave a brief description regarding the heritage and culture of VAST and also hint the motive behind the conduction of this one day workshop. The function was inaugurated by Er. G Mohanachandran (Executive Director, VAST). He later addressed the gathering and informed that the role of VICT is progress through education and this vision is applicable not only to the students’ studying in the VAST, but also to the student fraternity belonging to the nearby areas of Thrissur. He briefed the students about the need for higher education and its impact on future life by quoting his own life experience. He also highlighted some of the activities being conducted so far as a part of this vision to enrich the younger generation. Dr. V N Krishnachandran, (Vice-Principal, VAST), Dr. V Jayaraman, (HOD, ME) and Dr. K BMaheswaran Nampoothiripad (Professor, ME) felicitated the occasion and motivated the students about the necessity of advanced learning.
After the inaugural ceremony, the student aspirants were led to the Production Engineering lab where they had an interactive and practice session on generation of helical and spur gears. In the after-noon session, students were taken to CAD/CAM lab. They were given a glance of the modern 3D modelling techniques and an introductory class on Inventor software. The entire program came to an end by 04.20 pm with the distribution of certificates.
