Vidya’s NSS units build a house for an old age person, celebrate WED, go cleaning, do Punarjjani, and do much more . . .

Vidya’s NSS units have just completed a great humanitarian activity: They handed over the keys of a house built by them to an old age person by name Balan. This is only one of the many activities the NSS volunteers have completed during the last week. They celebrated World Environment Day at four different locations, observed the World No Tobacco Day, conducted a health awareness survey in Thrissur Corporation, cleaned the premises of several public institutions, did Punarjjani related work in two Govt hospitals, and did many other activities.


Vidya NSS Volunteers build house for Balettan

The NSS units of the College, in association with Velur Grama Panchayath, built a house for an old age person Balan under the project “Home for Homeless”.    The key handing over ceremony was held at Puliyannur on 06.06.2018.  Dr Sudha Balagopalan, Principal, and Ms Sherly Dileep Kumar (President,  Velur Grama Panchayath) jointly handed over the key to Mr Balan during the ceremony. Mr Anil M (NSS Programme Officer) welcomed the gathering.  Mr Abdul Rasheed (Vice President, Velur Grama Panchayath), Ms Simi Teacher (Ward Member, Velur Grama Panchayath), Mr L C Ouseph (Ward member, Velur Grama Panchayath), Mr Shoby (Ward member, Velur Grama Panchayath) felicitated the programme. Vote of thanks was delivered  by Ms. Aswathy P (NSS Program Officer).


Health awareness survey in Thrissur Corporation

The NSS units of Vidya in association with Thrissur Corporation conducted a health awareness survey on 4th and 5th June 2018 at Thrissur.  Mr Vinod (Health Inspector) and Mr Binoy (Health Inspector) explained the relevance of cleanliness in rainy seasons to avoid the spreading of diseases and guided the volunteers to conduct the survey. NSS volunteers were divided into groups and conducted survey at division no.36, which is Thekkinkad division of Thrissur Corporation. Volunteers covered a total of 370 houses around the areas of Thekkinkad Division.


World No Tobacco Day observance

The NSS units of Vidya observed World No Tobacco Day at Primary Health Centre, Chiranellur, on 03.06.2018. NSS volunteers organized various activities like drama, mime, tableau and speech to create awareness about the ill effects of tobacco uses.

Every year, on 31 May, WHO and partners mark World No Tobacco Day (WNTD), highlighting the health and other risks associated with tobacco use, and advocating for effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption. The focus of World No Tobacco Day 2018 is “Tobacco and heart disease.”


Use the Useless Programme

The NSS units of Vidya conducted the “Use the Useless Programme” on 1 June 2018. Volunteers collected tyres from various locations in the college campus which were becoming a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Collected tyres are kept in a room and the volunteers are planning to use them for some innovative projects.


Swachh Rail Swachh Bharat: Mass cleanning drive at Thrissur Railway Station

NSS units of Vidya in association with Thrissur Railway Station authorities organized a mass cleaning drive “Swachh Rail Swachh Bharat” at Thrissur Railway Station on 01.06.2018. The aim behind the initiative was to spread awareness on cleanliness in rail premises and make hygiene a habit among the traveling public.The programme was officially inaugurated by Mr K Muralidaran, Station Director. Health inspector, Mr Jayakumar, spoke about the importance of cleaning. Mr K Jayakumar, Station Manager, felicitated the programme. Vote of thanks was delivered by Mr Vishnu P C, NSS Volunteer Secretary. As part of the cleaning drive, a rally was conducted to spread awareness among the people. About 60 NSS volunteers actively participated in the programme.


Swachh Bharat Cleaning Programme

NSS units of Vidya conducted a cleaning programme at Primary Health Centre, Choondal on 03.06.2018. As many as 25  NSS volunteers participated in the programme. The volunteers cleaned the premises of Primary Health Centre wearing gloves to spread the importance of cleanliness in our life.


Mass Cleaning Programme at Government Mental Health Care, Thrissur

NSS units of Vidya organized a mass cleaning programme at Government Mental Health Care, Thrissur  on 31.05.2018. Dr Rekha (Hospital Superintendent) inaugurated the programme. Dr Rathi, Dr Lakshmi, and Nishar Nisha felicitated the programme. NSS volunteers cleaned the premises of hospital with the aim to prevent epidemic diseases and to make people aware about the importance of cleaning. As many as 70 NSS volunteers actively participated in the programme.


World Environment Day celebration at Kattoor Anganwadi

NSS units of Vidya celebrated World Environment Day at Anganwadi, Kattoor Grama Panchayath on 05.06.2018. The theme for the World Environment Day 2018 is “Beat Plastic Pollution.” Volunteers distributed paper bags to the students and staff members of the Anganwadi to emphasize the need to reduce the plastic usage to save our environment. NSS volunteers planted saplings of hibiscus, nerium, mahogany and guava in and around Anganwadi place and also distributed few saplings to the children over there. Volunteers also also distributed few study materials and sweets to the Anganwadi children as part of this programme.


World Environment Day Celebration at Juvenile Home Ramavarmapuram

Vidya’s NSS Tunits in association with OISCA International celebrated World Environment Day at Juvenile Home Ramavarmapuram on 05.06.2018. Dr. Sudha Balagopalan, Principal, initiated the celebration by giving a sapling to one of our NSS volunteers and spoke about the importance of protection of our environment. Welcome speech was delivered by Mr. Anil Sukumaran (CEO of Impulse Technologies and Vice-president of OISCA International). Plantation programme was inaugurated by planting the Kanikonna by Dr. Sudha Balagopalan, Principal,  along with Manikandan, an inmate of children’s home.  Felicitation was given by Mr. Jayakumar, Juvenile Home Superintendent. Vote of thanks was delivered  by Advt. V K Suresh Kumar, Councillor, Ramavarmapuram. NSS volunteers planted about 100 medicinal plants in and around the areas of Juvenile Home under the guidance of Mr.Jayakumar (Juvenile Home Superintendent) and Ms. Mahalakshmy A (NSS Programme Officer). As many as 34 NSS volunteers actively participated in the programme.


World Environment Day Celebration at Government Hospital, Irinjalakuda

NSS units of Vidya conducted World Environment Day Celebration at Government Hospital, Irinjalakuda, on 05.06.2018. The volunteers took initiative and cleaned a piece of land, made it ready for planting. Dr. Minimol, Hospital Superintendent, inaugurated the programme by planting a sapling in the newly set garden area . The theme for the World Environment Day 2018 is “Beat Plastic Pollution.” The NSS volunteers under the guidance of dietician of the hospital conducted awareness talks aided by slogans and placards to make patients and staffs of the hospital aware about the negative impacts of plastics in our life. NSS volunteers also emphasized the need to reduce the use of plastic items and to promote the use of cloth bags, steel bottles etc. to the people over there.


World Environment Day Celebration at Primary Health Centre, Choondal

On 4 June 2018, NSS units of Vidya celebrated World Environment Day at Primary Health Centre, Chiranellur, Choondal. Volunteers cleaned the surroundings of the health centre and conducted various group activities like skits, tableau, songs and mimes to convey the message to protect our environment from pollution.


Punarjjani Camp at Government General Hospital, Irinjalakuda

NSS units of Vidya organised Punarjjani  Camp at Government General Hospital, Irinjalakuda, from 31st May to 4th June 2018. Dr. Minimol, Hospital Superintendent, inaugurated the camp. As many as 50  NSS volunteers participated in the camp. NSS volunteers done the maintenance and painting works to rejuvenate the hospital equipments.


Punarjjani Camp At Primary Health Center, Choondal

NSS units of Vidya Academy of Science and Technology organised Punarjjani  Camp at Primary Health center Choondal, from 2nd to 4th June 2018. Dr. T K Subi and the staff nurse Remya P V gave positive energy to the volunteers through their inspirational words and gave full support to the programme. As many as 25  NSS volunteers participated in the camp. NSS volunteers done the maintenance and painting works of the hospital equipments like wheel chair, IV stand, observation table, sitting bench, square stool, medicine trolley etc.
