Turmeric (Curcuma longa): fresh rhizome and powder

As a part of turmeric farming in Vidya, the NSS volunteers of Vidya harvested the turmeric and processed the collected turmeric for making turmeric powder, on 13 March 2019. The aim of the programme was to produce and make available natural turmeric powder without any chemicals. There are wide spread complaints that the turmeric powder available in the market is adulterated with unhealthy chemicals.

Common food adulterants in India

Some of the materials used as adulterants in turmeric are metanil yellow and red oxide of lead – the later being highly carcinogenic.
