NSS units help Railways popularise purchasing of unreserved tickets using mobiles

The Indian Railways has introduced a mobile application which enables booking and cancellation of unreserved tickets among a host of other facilities. The app will also enable issue and renewal of season and platform tickets, check and load R-wallet balance and help maintain user profile management and booking history. The app named “utsonmobile” (Unreserved Ticketing Service on mobile) developed by the Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS) is available for both Android and Windows smart phones. Users can download this app from Google Play Store or Windows store free of cost.

The volunteers of the NSS units of Vidya oragnised an awareness campaign to popularise this app among the train passengers and among the general public. The campaign was held at Urakam in Thrissur District and the surrounding areas. This activity by Vidya’s volunteers attracted a lot of media attention as vouchsafed by the attached images of news clippings.

The programme was inaugurated by Mr Prasoon S Kumar (Thrissur Chief Commercial Inspector, Indian railways). Mr Vijayakumar (President, Train Passengers Association, Puthukkad) presided over the function. Mr Arun Lohithakshan (Secretary, Train Passengers Association, Puthukkad) and the NSS volunteers Ushaus Androse, Ananathu Venugopal also spoke on the occasion.
