MCA student performs Kuchippudi at Kadavallur Anyonyam

Malavika Mohan, a student of the S5 MCA class of Vidya and a former Kalathilakam of Calicut University presented a Kuchippudi dance performance at Sree Ramaswamy Temple, Kadavllur, Thrissur District on 24 November 2019. Malavika’s performance at Kadavallur was as a part of the Nrithaaradhana  (dance festival) being organised there in connection with this year’s conduct of an age-old ritual known as Anyonyam conducted every year during the first half of the Malayalam month of Vrischikam.

Kadavallur Anyonyam

Kadavallur Anyonyam is a historic event where two groups of Rgveda scholars meet at the Sree Ramaswamy Temple, Kadavallur, Thrissur District, Kerala and conduct various examinations in the chanting of Rgveda. This is a unique practice both ritual and pedagogical. This helps in preserving the memory of the Prakrti and Vikrti Pathas of Rgveda chanting among the Rgveda scholars of Kerala. This type of oral examination is not practiced for other Vedas in Kerala or for any Vedas in other parts of India. Kadavllur Anyonyam has a history of hundreds of years.

Those who are interested in knowing more about the ritual and hear the unique style of rendering of the Rgveda followed by the scholars of Kerala may visit the website of Vedic Heritage maintained by the Indira Gandhi national Centre for the Arts which can be accessed by clicking HERE.

Incidentally, Malavika had perfected her dancing talents under the guidance of Mr Anand E T who is also a staff of the EEE Dept of the College.
