FOSSers of Vidya talk about FOSS!

FOSSers VAST, a group of students and others enthusiastic about  free and open source software, conducted a webinar on “Introduction to FOSS and Linux” on 1 August 2020, Saturday from 7.00pm to 8.30pm. The event attracted 40 participants from third semester batches of CSE, ME, CE and EEE Depts of Vidya and of FISAT. The event started with an introduction to free software by Subin Siby (S7 B Tech CSE A). this was followed by a talk by Athul Raj (S5 B Tech CSE A on different Linux distributions. It was followed by a talk by Radhika Sharma (S5 B Tech CSE B) on FOSS alternatives to proprietary software.  Then Mohammed Hashim (S5 B Tech CSE B) showed how to use Python library PyAutoGUI to automate some daily tasks.

The final event was a Kahoot quiz on the topics discussed earlier. Aadithye N (S3 B Tech CSE A) was the winner of the quiz with Hari D (S5 B Tech CSE A) and Nandakishor T (S3 B Tech CSE B) being the first and second runner up respectively. The event was conducted using the open source software Big Blue Button. The configuration and testing and overall programme coordination were done by  Jijin K Haridas (S5 B Tech CSE A) and Subin Siby (S7 B Tech CSE A).
