ME Dept hosts Hands-on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Workshop for final year students

The Mechanical Engineering Department successfully organized a two-day Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) workshop on March 25 and 26, 2024, tailored specifically for final year students. The workshop, featuring hands-on sessions on the second day, allowed participants to gain practical experience in setting up and analyzing CFD models. Led by esteemed resource persons,  Mr Abdul Gafoor C P (Research Scholar, Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM)) and Rituraj (Research Scholar, Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM)), the workshop provided valuable insights into CFD principles and their applications in engineering. A recipient of Prime Minister’s Research fellowship, Mr Abdul Gafoor has contributed abundantly in the execution of central government projects while he was working with Vidya as a Senior Research Fellow in ME Dept .

The second day of the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) workshop, hosted by the Mechanical Engineering Department, was marked by hands-on sessions aimed at providing final year students with practical experience in CFD simulations. Under the expert guidance of Abdul Gafoor C P and Rituraj from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), participants delved into the intricacies of setting up and analyzing CFD models using industry-standard software tools.

The hands-on sessions proved to be a valuable learning opportunity for the final year mechanical engineering students, allowing them to apply theoretical concepts learned in the classroom to real-world scenarios. Participants eagerly engaged with the software, gaining proficiency in tasks such as mesh generation, defining boundary conditions and interpreting simulation results. The interactive nature of the sessions facilitated active participation and encouraged collaborative learning among attendees.

Throughout the workshop, participants benefited from personalized guidance and feedback from the resource persons, enabling them to overcome challenges and refine their CFD skills. The practical exercises provided a platform for students to experiment with different simulation parameters and gain a deeper understanding of the factors influencing fluid flow behaviour.
