School students ignite the flame of sparking curiosity and nurturing the seeds of innovation at Sci-Pi Project Exhibition

In the ever-evolving landscape of technological development, the need for skilled professionals in Science, Technology, Mathematics and other creative domains have become increasingly relevant. As we navigate the complexities, it is imperative to inspire and encourage the next generation to pursue interests.

Exhibition cum Competition organized at Vidya on 11 January 2024.

More than 350 students competed for more than 150 projects that made it to the finals of the project exhibition in the areas of science, maths and craft in the still and working model categories through scientific, social, economic and creative thinking.

Students showcased their scientific insight through several innovative projects based on topics like health, agriculture, computational thinking, environment-friendly lifestyle, communication, transportation, waste management,agriculture,organic farming,research-based projects, mathematical modelling, etc. Cash prizes worth 65K with certificates were distributed by Dr Saji CB (Principal) and Dr Sunitha C (Vice Principal) and Dr Nisha A B (VIBE Convener, Asso Prof, App Sc Dept) distributed. The mentor teachers of students were also honored with certificates. The seventh grade students Sreehari Pramod and Anav Krishna (Salsabeel Central School, Varadiyam) received special appreciation award on their innovative idea presented in the event.

The students of Amrita Vidyalaya, Ayanthol stood out by coming up with many creative ideas integrated with technology in the Project Exhibition Amrita bagged the first position in Science Still Working Model and Maths Working Model and the Outstanding Trophy for active participation of maximum number of students in the program.Nirmal Jyoti Central School, Mundur commendably performed well and won the second position.

The  team  VIBE (Vidya Initiative for Better Engineering) organized  the program with  Mr Manu P R (Asst  Prof, App Sc  Dept) and Ms Riya P D (Asst  Prof, AIML Dept) as the co-ordinators under the guidance of Dr Nisha A B  (VIBE Convener,Asso  Prof, App Sc  Dept), Ms Divya Unni (VIBE Co-Convener, Asst  Prof, ECE Dept) supported by the core team, Vidya staff members and student volunteers .

Concrete Mix Design Workshop offered a perfect practical exposure session for diploma students

To provide diploma students with a realistic exposure to concrete mix design, the Dept of CE successfully conducted ‘Concrete Mix Design Workshop – Bridging Theory and Practice for Hands-On Expertise’ 06 January 2024. More than 100 students from different polytechnic colleges and two faculties from MTI participated in the workshop.

Ms Nirmala Krishnan (Asst. Prof, CE Dept) and Ms Nisha Varghese (Asst. Prof, CE Dept) served as resource persons.

The Sessions

After the inaugural function, the students were divided into two groups out of which one was handled by Ms. Nirmala Krishnan, (Asst. Prof, CE Dept) and the other by Ms. Nisha Varghese, (Asst. Prof, CE Dept)

The workshop was on Concrete Mix Design and it included both theory and hands-on Practice for concrete mix design. The forenoon session included the theory aspects of concrete mix design and its practical applications which was handled by Ms. Nirmala Krishnan and Ms. Nisha Varghese, The afternoon session was mainly dedicated to hands-on training which was handled by Mr Renjith R (Asst. Prof, CE Dept).Dr Abhilasha distributed the participation certificates to all the students.

Then the students were introduced to the department facilities, various labs, and Campus Infrastructure including the Auditorium, Canteen, Hostel, Nakshathravanam, sports ground and other amenities which were handled by Mr Kiran Babu A R (Asst Prof, CE Dept), Ms Roshni Vijay (Asst Prof, CE Dept) and Ms Ardra P Nair (Asst. Prof, CE Dept).

The feedback session at the end of the workshop further confirms that the students were extremely happy to take part in the workshop and found it completely satisfying.

VSEC to conduct online quiz for 8th standard students

With an aim to instill the mind of young students with a spirit of scientific inquiry, logical thinking, the Vidya Social Empowerment Center (VSEC), an initiative of Vidya International Charitable Trust (VICT) is conducting an online quiz completion for 8th standard students  with attractive prizes on  30 January 2024 (Tuesday) at 7.30 pm 

This event is expected to awaken students’ curiosity towards Science, Mathematics, Computer Science and Current Affairs

NSS observes ‘ Energy Conservation Day’

The NSS units of Vidya conduct different programs to raise awareness about energy efficiency and its conservation. The NSS units observed Energy Conservation Day  on 14 December 2023 as part of National Energy Conservation Day celebration.

CE Dept conducts Dept Alumni Interaction Series ‘Let’s Connect’

Vidya is fortunate that, every Vidya alumnus deems in inspiring their juniors and providing guidelines for improved prospects.

An alumni interaction session with Mr Hrethwik V V (2018-22 Batch, CE Dept) was arranged for final year students on 30 November 2023. Mr Hrethwik is currently working as Site Engineer, M/s Novocrete (Pvt Ltd.) Thrissur.

Ms Vandana V (Asst Prof, CE Dept) and Ms Chithra M (Asst Prof, CE Dept) led the program as co-ordinators.

ISV South Asia Working Group to conduct online workshop on 20 January 2024

Vidya offers essential supports to the deserving children from underserved communities by organizing various activities under the auspices of IEEE Smart Village (ISV). Vidya is selected as Student Centre for IEEE Smart Village (ISV) to spread the activities. Now we work in Thrissur, Tirunelveli (TN) and Bhubaneshwar (Orissa) with the student centre support.

Dr Sudha Balagopalan (Dean- Academics) is leading the activities with the role as Lead – Vocational Awareness, ISV South Asia Working Group (SAWG)

CE Dept welcomes to attend Three Days FDP on “Harmony in Structures: Bridging Vastu and Civil Engineering”

Vidya provides all possible efforts to act as a bridge between traditional wisdom with modern engineering to create environments that promote well-being and positive energy flow.

The Dept of CE is actively involving in consultancy services in various specializations of Civil Engineering including that of various activities connected with LSGD (Local Self-Government Department) projects as part of the Rebuild Kerala Initiative (RKI). The activities include quality monitoring tests of roads in Wayanad District, Total Station survey of Toyakkavu-Venkitangu Road, Paris Road in Kandanassery, Athirappally Road, Thandilam-Manali Road, Punnayurkulam Road, Chittanda–Padinjattumuri Road, Kuranchery Road, Thali-Viruttanam Road, Aloor Road and Mathilakam Road. These activities were well appreciated and the Govt of Kerala gave sanction to the Dept to serve as the second tier in the quality control mechanism .

With an aim to foster a comprehensive understanding by integrating Vastu principles into civil engineering practices, the Dept of CE, in association with ISTE FACULTY CHAPTER,VAST is organizing Three Days Faculty Development Programme on “Harmony in Structures: Bridging Vastu and Civil Engineering” during 22-24 January 2024 for Faculty members / M.Tech / M.Plan students from KTU affiliated College.Participants will explore mathematical aspects of Vastu, applying geometric ratios for balanced structures.
