MCA organizes Achiever’s Day 2023-2024

The Department of Computer Applications came together to celebrate “Achievers Day”- a momentous occasion honoring the outstanding accomplishments of the students and faculty members of MCA on 16 April 2024. The event was a vibrant recognition and celebration, showcasing the remarkable achievements of our esteemed members.

Dr.Saji C B (Principal) despite his absence, gave unwavering support. His motivation served as guiding beacons for all achievers, inspiring them to reach greater heights. Dr Sunitha C (Vice Principal) graced the occasion with her presence, adding a touch of honor and prestige to the event. Her encouragement and support have been instrumental in fostering a culture of excellence within the department.

Dr.Sajay K R (Associate Professor, MCA), whose dedication and scholarly contributions have brought immense pride to the department Furthermore, Department took pride in acknowledging the achievements of the students from the 2022-2024 batch who have secured placements, paving the way for successful careers ahead. Their accomplishments serve as a testament to the excellence fostered within the department.

International Hackathon on Large Language Models conducted by Hardponit consulting,USA in Association with CSE Dept

Mr. Raymond Kusch (CEO of Hardpoint Consulting) catalyzing the realization of the Hackathon.

The consistent engagement facilitated by HoD, the launching event, which unfolded virtually on 23 January 2024, served as a beacon of innovation and collaboration facilitated by esteemed partners Mr Raymond Kusch (CEO of Hardpoint Consulting, and Mr Nidhin Kadavil. Together, they spearheaded an immersive experience aimed at empowering students and forging pathways to internships and placements. With a thematic emphasis on Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Large Language Model(LLM)technologies, the Hackathon bridged the gap between theoretical academia and practical industry applications. The event unfolded in two distinct stages, each designed to challenge and inspire participants while fostering a collaborative spirit. The international scope of the event added an extra layer of excitement and diversity to the proceedings.

Their expertise and insights inspired attendees, leaving a lasting impact and fueling their motivation for the competition. Additionally, Dr. Manu Madhavan (Assistant Professor, IIIT Kottayam and an expert in Large Language Models (LLMs)) extended expertise to the pre-training camp held on 26 March 2024 equipping participants with the tools and knowledge needed to tackle the challenge head-on.

Ms.Thulasi Rajan K,Ms Remya P S,Ms Mithu Varghese, and Ms Jensy Babu) was instrumental in meticulously creating each group. Their dedication ensured the seamless formation and functioning of the teams, laying the ground work for a successful and enriching competition experience.

Following the initial round, 10 standout teams emerged victorious . Assigned dedicated staff mentors, these teams embarked on the final leg of the journey, armed with a new problem statement unveiled on 03 April 2024.Tasked with designing innovative solutions to address real-world challenges faced by small and medium enterprises (SMEs), leveraging generative AI technologies, participants delved deep into the realm of possibility, exploring diverse avenues of application within the SME landscape.

The Hard point Consulting International Hackathon stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and innovation in driving positive change a cross borders. By bridging the gap between academia and industry on a global scale,this event not only provided students with a platform to apply their skills in real-worlds cenarios but also paved the way for meaningful partnerships and opportunities for future growth and development on an international level. As participants reflect on their journey, they carry with the invaluable lessons learned, forging ahead with renewed inspiration and determination to make a difference in the world of NLP and LLM technologies.

CE Dept organizes honoring ceremony

The academic year 2023-2024 proved to be a testament to the exceptional capabilities and remarkable achievements of students. To commemorate their hard work and dedication, a recognition program was organized on 18 April 2024.

In S8 (A Batch), Alphy Anto and Akarsha emerged as top performers, securing impressive CGPAs of 8.82 and 8.77 respectively. Meanwhile, in S8 (B Batch), Nandhana V R and Sreeranjini Sreekumar showcased outstanding academic prowess with remarkable CGPAs of 9.34 and 9.13 respectively. Aleena C J and Gangodaya T S distinguished themselves as top achievers in S6 (A Batch), securing CGPAs of 9.02 and 8.89 respectively, while Meenakshi C V and Sumeena C A excelled in S6 (B Batch) with CGPAs of 9.29 and 9.0 respectively. Athira Anandan P and Jisni P J emerged as the top performers in S4, boasting impressive CGPAs of 9.53 and 8.62 respectively. Additionally, Dharsana M J and Yamini Vijayan showcased outstanding performance in S2, securing CGPAs of 8.76 and 7.83 respectively.

Albin Lazar (S8, CE A) represented the university in Kho Kho, while Diya A J (SI, CE A) showcased her skills in Tug of War, earning university representation.

Athul V M, Fathima Kulzum, Akshaya, and Beslin from S8 contributed significantly to academic research by publishing papers guided by Mr Kiran Babu A R (Asst Prof, CE Dept). Moreover, journal and conference approvals were granted to Saya Surendran, Irene K B, Lohith Manakalath S and Kavya V P from S8 which was guided by Ms Seetha Pisharikkal (Asst Prof, CE Dept).

Devanad (S6 CE Dept) and Delvin (S6, CE Dept) secured first prize in ‘ Concrete Crush ‘ and Nandan K V (S8 CE Dept) secured first prize in Design wizard conducted in Tech fest 2024.

Ms Anitha N K ( S2 CE Dept ) was congratulated for her remarkable achievement as she joined engineering at the age of 56, becoming a role model for all students. She successfully cleared all papers in the first semester in her first attempt, showcasing her determination and dedication. Her accomplishment serves as an inspiration to individuals of all ages pursuing their dreams in education. The noble act of Agnivesh (S2, CE Dept) who donated liver to his father was recognized and appreciated.

The recognition program served as a platform to celebrate the academic excellence, sportsmanship, and various achievements of the students throughout the academic year 2023-2024. The dedication and hard work demonstrated by the students, supported by the guidance of the faculty members , have truly made Vidya proud.

CSE Faculty member and students present paper in the fourth National Conference on Recent Innovations in Computer and Information Technology (RICIT 24)

Under the guidance of Ms Anitha and with active participation from the group members , they presented different methodologies for resume parsing. Also discussed a wide range of approaches and techniques employed in automated resume parsing and ranking. The advantages and limitations of each technique is also summarized. They could also emphasize the importance in streamlining recruitment, reducing manual efforts, and improving talent acquisition efficiency.

The Dept presented some gifts as well as a token of their warmth and reverence for all the incredible support that Dr Sudha has contributed silently in shaping the ME Dept at her level best .

Dr Sudha recollected her memorable association with ME Dept especially with the co-operation and enjoyed sharing stories of the accomplishments of staff members with alumni, prospective students, parents and prospective donors

Dept of Civil Engineering

The CE Dept brought together an informal function on 26 April 2024 to Dr Sudha, a person who served all roles in various capacities with unflagging encouragement and erudite guidance to all the staff members in CE Dept .

The staff members shared their eternal association with Dr Sudha who gave confidence they desired to thrive with an stirring work ethics even apart from Civil filed and her guidance in nurturing IEEE activities associated with CE Dept.

The Dept honored Dr Sudha with fitting homage and handed over a gift as a token of their gratitude and affection. Ms Nirmala Krishnan (Asst Prof, CE Dept) learned new skill ( stitched a beautiful portrait of Dr Sudha) in order to present Dean with much admiration .

Dr Sudha shared her ideas with an abundance of hope for the future and the lessons that learned from Vidya in numerous different ways




Session on Electoral Literacy

Intriguing ahead its continuous efforts of  building an active democratic voter in India, an Electoral Literacy Session was held for first year B. Tech  students on 13 February 2024. The session was handled by the Government officials.

The session promoted responsiveness of ‘Right to vote’ among students.Students actively involved in the session that created a culture of keen electoral commitment and doing well-versed and ethical poll decisions among the general public of the country.




CE student clears NPTEL Examination

National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL)
National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) is a quality Indian e-learning platform for university-level Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects. It is jointly developed by Indian Institutes of Technology and Indian Institute of Science. It operates one of the most extensive educational Youtube channel covering engineering, basic sciences, and some humanities and social science subjects.

CE students’ paper to appear in Proceedings of International Conference

It sounds like the students of the CE Department are excelling in their endeavors, showcasing not only their academic prowess but also their ability to effectively communicate and present their work. Such achievements undoubtedly bring pride and recognition to the department. Celebrating the accomplishments of students is essential for fostering a supportive and encouraging academic environment.

A technical paper titled “Geotechnical Characterization of Substrates in Pilot Scale Constructed Wetland” and authored by Nayana Manikandan (S8, CE Dept), Sereena P V (S8, CE Dept), Sujil C T (S8, CE Dept) and Thamjid Noushal M M (S8, CE Dept) has been accepted for publication in the Proceedings of the International Conference on Novelties in Geotechnical Engineering(ICNGE) 2024 organised by the Department of Civil Engineering, SCMS School of Engineering and Technology, Karukutty in association with the Indian Geotechnical Society, Kochi Chapter.

The authors had earlier presented the paper in the Conference in ICNGE 2024 on 26 April 2024 and received participation certificates. The paper was the outcome of their final year project under the guidance of Ms Seetha Pisharikkel (Asst Professor, CE Dept).

WISSEN 2024 – Edition 2 : Vidya‘s Talent Examination

Vidya makers every effort to facilitate students to get a feel of a competitive exam before they can face other entrance exams to prefer their path of study.

To pave a path for progress, Vidya under the auspices of VIBE (Vidya Initiative for Better Engineering) is conducting a talent hunt examination christened ‘WISSEN 2024 Edition 2’ during 11-12 May 2024 in the online mode to encourage promising talents in the field of science and engineering.

A rank list will be published based on the marks scored by the candidates in the exams.

VSEC Empowerment Programme at SOS Children’s Village Thrissur

To provide educational support and introduce to the mathematical concepts and basic electrical circuits, an Empowerment Programme was organized at SOS Village Mulayam in collaboration with Vidya Social Empowerment Center (VSEC) VSEC and IEEE Smart Village (ISV) on 13 April 2024.

Activities:-
• Mathematics Session by Dr. Siju K C 

Dr Siju K.C (Head of VSEC, Asso Prof, AS Dept) conducted an activity oriented session on a math concept. She engaged the children in a hands-on activity to measure the circumference and diameter of a circle using thread. Through this activity, the concept of “Pi” was introduced andexplained. Student volunteers assisted in facilitating the activity and further elaborated on the importance of the constant pi.

• Introduction to ISV and Snap Circuits by Dr. Sudha Balagopalan:

Dr Sudha Balagopalan (Dean- Academics) took over the session and provided an overview of IEEE Smart Village (ISV) initiatives. She introduced Snap Circuits provided by ISV and distributed two circuits to the children. The purpose and basic functioning of these circuits were explained to the children, aiming to spark their interest in electrical engineering concepts.

Impact:-

• On Student Volunteers:
o Gain exposure to organizing and conducting educational sessions.
o Develop skills in communication and leadership.
• On SOS Children:
o Acquire knowledge about mathematical calculations and the significance of the value pi.
o Got introduced to basic electrical circuits, providing them with potential insights into future STEM endeavors.
