Vidya hosts workshop on AICTE Initiatives

Vidya hosted a meeting of Principals and Placement Officers of all Engineering Colleges and Polytechnic Colleges in Kerala on 16.12.2017 as per a special request from the South-West Regional Office of the AICTE.  The meeting was touted as a workshop to share the details of the various AICTE initiatives with the authorities of technical institutions in Kerala.

The workshop commenced with a prayer followed by the welcome address by Dr. Ramesh Unnikrishnan, Director and Regional Officer, AICTE. He welcomed all the dignitaries and gave an overview of the various MoUs to be presented in the workshop. Dr. R. Hariharan, Advisor, AICTE HQ, Delhi, delivered the presidential address. He pointed out that AICTE was not merely an approving authority, but it was also a body with a mandate to improve the quality of technical education in India. He elaborated on the ten initiatives taken up by AICTE recently to achieve the desired quality of technical education. The Inaugural address was given by Dr. K. P. Isaac, Vice-Chancellor, APJAKTU, Kerala. He congratulated AICTE for taking up the new initiatives. This was followed by felicitations by Dr. M. Abdul Rahman, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, APJAKTU, Kerala, and Er. G. Mohanachandran, Executive Director, VICT. The formal function was concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sudha Balagopalan, Principal.

The next session of the workshop focused on the four MoUs recently signed by AICTE.

Technical Session

  • The Technical session was started by Mr. R. S. Rathore, Director on Deputation, AICTE. He explained the different diploma programmes offered by AICTE on short term and long term basis. He also listed out the various diploma courses such as Vocational Diploma Programme, which give emphasis on skill development.

  • Ms. Bineesha, Executive Director, International Institute of Waste Management, made a presentation on the focus areas of Green Campus Initiatives and on how association with the Initiatives  would benefit the partnering institutions.

  • The representative of HireMee explained how institutions could ensure that bright young graduates from colleges across India were discovered by companies. She also listed the various stages in the selection procedure. The various features of HireMee Mobile App were also presented.

  • The representative of Fourth Ambit emphasized the importance of setting up an online college community for enriching the educational ecosystem. He further said that this tool could connect, engage and activate students, alumni, faculty, parents, corporates and other well-wishers.

  • The CEO of Campus Quotient gave a clear picture about how Campus Quotient fills the industry- academia gap. This venture focuses on enterprise readiness and employability at campuses. It gives a platform to connect seasoned industry veterans with high caliber students and to vastly improve the industry readiness of each college.
