ME students visit Steel Industries and Forgings Ltd, Athani
A batch of 63 S4 B Tech (ME) students conducted an industrial visit to Steel Industries and Forgings Ltd. (SIFL), Athani, Thrissur, on 14.03.2018. The objective of the visit was to make the students familiarize with forging processes and the machinery used in the industry. Mr Hareesh K (AP, ME Dept) accompanied the students.
During the visit, the students got an opportunity to see how complex and high precision aerospace forgings, specialized forgings for defense, heavy forgings for commercial vehicles, Indian Railways and other components for automobiles etc. are manufactured. They could see the working of CNC machines and high capacity lathe, open die forging, closed die forging, working of various capacity punch and presses, closed die forging hammers of high tonnage capacities, and heat treatment processes. The need and significance of industrial safety too were explained by Mr. Sharan S Nair, Graduate Engineer Trainee, who guided them. They could visit the metallurgy lab and the testing lab which included a non-destructive testing centre also. Incidentally, Mr Sharan Nair is an alumnus of the 2016 pass-out batch of the College.
