EEE faculty members attend 5-day STTP on Trends in Hybrid Vehicles

A team of three faculty members from the EEE Dept of the College consisting of Ms Neeraja A Poduval, Mr Aswin T Surendran and Mr Vishnurach K R attended a five-day Short Term Training Programme on “Trends in Hybrid Vehicles” organised at Govt Engineering College, Kannur, during 1 – 5 January 2019.

Here is a outline of what the team members had learnt from the STTP!

Day 1

The day 1 started with the inaugural ceremony. The program was inaugurated by the college principal and organizing committee members briefed about various sessions ahead. The first session was handled by Dr Nishanth T (AP, Physics Dept, Sree Krishna College, Guruvayur). It was based on the need for switching on to electric vehicles with emphasis on environmental pollution. The resource person was successful in conveying the dangerous scenario with regards to vehicular emissions.

In the afternoon session, Dr Ajay Babu (AP, NSS College of Engineering, Palakkad) talked about energy management in hybrid electric vehicles. He emphasised basics of optimized fuel consumption for better performance and comfort in hybrid electric vehicles.

Day 2

The day 2 started with a session on various drives for hybrid electric vehicles by Dr Rajesh M (Prof, GCE Kannur). He discussed about the comparison in performance and efficiency of various drives. It followed by a very interesting session on fuel cells and biomass gasifiers by Dr. Vasanth Parthasarthy (Research Associate, GCE Kannur). He discussed about different types of fuel cells, their basic working and their potential in automobile industry.

In the afternoon session, the participants visited the research laboratory within the campus where solid oxide fuel cell and gasifier plant were functioning.
