ISV South Asia WG conducts online workshop
Vidya gives essential support to the deserving children from underprivileged communities by engaging in various improvement activities under the auspices of IEEE Smart Village (ISV). Vidya is chosen as the only South Indian centre Student Centre for IEEE Smart Village (ISV) to spread such activities. Currently Vidya has started initiatives in Thrissur, Tirunelveli (TN) and Bhubaneshwar (Orissa) with the student centre support and is supporting Mizoram, Assam, Maharashtra etc. via the national lead, Dr Sudha Balagopalan (Dean Academics, Lead, ISV South Asia Working Group).
Dr Sudha Balagopalan (Dean-Academics) is leading all the activities and has been contributing immensely well with the role as the Chair of the Vocational Awareness Initiative , ISV South Asia WG Mentoring and implementing student projects for empowering underserved communities via sustainable livelihood creation through adaptation of technology has also been started with great vigor and students are contributing to the same with immense verve.
Vidya raised 7 projects last time in the IdearRun contest in the national scene and one got awarded and another was selected for poster presentation.
To shed more light on the activities, and to encourage more such mentored projects, an online workshop on, ‘Sustainable and Scalable Development of undeserved communities with three pillar strategy of Technology, Education and Entrepreneurship’ was conducted under the auspices of ISV South Asia WG on 14 October 2023 at 10 am. The session started with the welcome address by Dr Satish Chetwani (Director, ERDA and Chair, ISV (SAWG) and was moderated by Dr Sasi K Kottayil (Vice President – SAWG, ISV)
The session was handled by the Resource Person, Er Sanjay Patki (President IEEE (India) & Senior Vice-president, IEEE Smart Village). The session really served as an enlightenment that provided to disseminate information about operation and contributions of IEEE Smart Village, necessary support from ISV and it’s various events, Integrating Technology, Education, and Entrepreneurship. He also gave a detailed analysis of each Pillar including that of ‘Technology’,’Education’ and ‘Entrepreneurship’. Er Sanjay also threw some inspiring thoughts on the use of local products in local markets, energy to be reliable, clean, and affordable , various enterprises and its Functions . The question answer session made the session more fruitful by sharing his experience and vast knowledge and also new innovative ideas with the participants. The staff members and students from Vidya participated in the session with significant keenness . Dr Sudha Balagopalan (Dean-Academics) proposed vote of thanks .The feedback collected was excellent.About 110 academics, students and ISV members participated and gave an excellent feedback to the session (attached).
