ECE Dept conducts FDP on ‘Practical Aspects of Communication Engineering’

The Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “Practical Aspects of Communication Engineering with Hands-on” was conducted by the Dept of Electronics & Communication Engineering during 22- 24 February 2024. The FDP provided educators, researchers, and professionals in the field of communication engineering with practical insights, hands-on experience, and updated knowledge in relevant areas /aspects of communication Engineering. The FDP also allowed participants with the practical skills and knowledge needed to prepare their students for successful careers in communication Engineering.

22 February 2024
Day 1 of the FDP began with a prayer at 9.30 am. Dr Swapna Kumar (HoD, ECE Dept) welcomed the chief guest. Inauguration of the FDP was done by Er Gouthaman P K (Adjunct Faculty, CSE Dept and Senior Director & Head of Network Resource Management(Retd), Etisala). He is also the  Patron Trustee of  Vidya Internatioinal Charitable Trust (VICT). The inaugural session concluded by vote of thanks by Mr Santumon S D (Asst Prof, D ECE Dept).

After the Inaugural ceremony,Er. Gouthaman P K detailed about Telecom operation management. It involves managing functions like network inventory management, managing provisioning issues, network availability & fault management, customer experience management etc. Dr S Swapna Kumar (HoD, ECE Dept) handled the afternoon session. He detailed the Energy efficient WSN and IoT Communication for conceptual Practical application.

23 Feb 2024
Day 2 of the FDP was handled by the resource person Dr Rajesh G (Assistant Professor, Department of ECE, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Kottayam). He introduced Python programming for communication and also detailed Pulse code modulation in detail.

24 Feb 2024
Day 3 of the FDP was handled by Er T K Kuttappan (Consultant-KSEB, Formerly RF Engineer, Etisalat).He is also the Patron Trustee of VICT.He discussed Optical fiber communication in detail. He also gave hands-on experience in the procedure of splicing and introduced Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR), which is a device that tests the integrity of a fiber optical cables.OTDR is used for building, maintaining and troubleshooting fiber optic systems. The session ended with hands-on activities in OTDR .

During the valedictory function, the audience was welcomed by Dr. S. Swapna Kumar (HoD, ECE Dept).Dr Saji C B (Principal, VAST) after his presidetial address, honoured Er T K Kuttappan by presenting a memento followed by the feedbacks on the FDP by the participants. A total of 30 external participants and 43 internal candidates from Vidya joined the FDP and made the initiative a grand success. The Valedictory Session ended with the vote of thanks by Ms. Snehalatha O J (Asst Prof, ECE Dept)
