Applied Sciences and Humanities Dept organizes Faculty Development Program
The Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities has been providing a comprehensive exploration of how mathematical principles that can be applied across various scientific and engineering disciplines by conducting sessions and FDPs
The Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities and the Centre for Studies in Discrete Mathematics, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Vidya along with the Kerala Mathematical Association (KMA) and the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) conducted a Faculty Development Program (FDP) on Applications of Mathematics in Science and Technology during 06-13 January 2025 at Vidya Academy of Science and Technology Thrissur, Kerala,
Each session had been structured to include both theoretical discussions and practical applications, ensuring participants gain a well-rounded understanding of the topics. Hands-on sessions had been integrated into the schedule, allowing participants to apply learned concepts in real-world scenarios.
The inaugural session was scheduled for 06 January 2025. The session began with a prayer, followed by a welcome address delivered by Dr. Jiby Jose (Professor and HoD , Applied Sciences and Humanities Dept). Dr. Sunitha C (Principal) delivered presidential address, setting a positive tone for the event.
The chief guest, Prof. Ratnakumar P K (Director, Kerala School of Mathematics (KSOM), delivered the inaugural address, highlighting the importance of mathematics in scientific and technological advancements. Felicitations were offered by Mr. Suresh Lal (Executive Director VICT), and Adv. P. N. Unnirajan IPS (Retd.), (Director of Administration,VICT) who both emphasized the significance of such programs in fostering academic excellence. The session concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Siju K. C (Convener of AMST 2025 and Asso Prof, Applied Sciences and Humanities Dept).
On the first day, Dr V N Krishnachandran (Principal (Retd.) Victoria College, Palakkad) discussed Computer Algebra Systems, while Dr Sudha Balagopalan (Director, Outreach and Professional Development, Christ College of Engineering, Irinjalakuda), covered Transform Techniques in Electrical Engineering January 7, Dr A Seema (Scientist, C-MET), presented on Mathematics and Physical Sciences in Sensor Technology, followed by a hands-on session led by Dr. Krishnachandran.
The third day featured the s talk of Dr. B. Sridharan (Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Palakkad) on Applications of Mathematical Models for Flood Simulation, and Dr. P.B. Vinod Kumar(Research Professor, Muthoot Institute of Technology and Science) presenting on Topological Tools for Data Analysis. Day four included Dr. Siju K. C (Asso Prof, Applied Sciences and Humanities Dept,Vidya Academy of Science and Technology) discussing Stochastic Processes in Engineering followed by the case study session led by Dr. B. Sridharan. On January 10, Dr. Sudheesh RS (Associate Professor,Department of Mechanical Engineering, Govt. Engineering College,Kozhikode) addressed Applications of Mathematics in Mechanical Engineering, also including a case study.
Notably, case studies presented by experts like Dr. B. Sridharan and Dr. Sudheesh R. S. have provided insights into practical applications of mathematical models in flood simulation and mechanical engineering. The final day of the FDP featured Dr. Dhanyamol M. V (Head of Department of Computational Science and Humanities, IIIT Kottayam) discussing Graphs and Networks and Dr. Jiby Jose (Professor and HoD , Applied Sciences and Humanities Dept, Vidya Academy of Science and Technology) presenting on Applications of Special Functions.
All sessions were conducted online via Google Meet, facilitating active engagement among participants from various locations. Overall the participants enhanced their skills and had a deeper appreciation for the role of mathematics in science and technology as incurred from their daily feedback.
The Editorial Team of News & Events joins the entire Vidya fraternity in extending hearty congratulations to AS & Humanities Dept on the flourishing conduct of the session that offers openings to exchange novel ideas and application involvements to establish research associations and reveals the significance of Mathematics in Science and Technology !!! |
