Contribution to Wayanad Flood Relief and Rehabilitation Efforts by Vidya NSS Units

A massive landslide occurred in Mundakai-Chooralmala, Wayanad, causing severe devastation to homes, infrastructure, and livelihoods on 30 July 2024,. The disaster left many families homeless and in dire need of relief and rehabilitation. In response to this calamity, Vidya NSS Units actively participated in the Wayanad Flood Relief Campaign, contributing to the larger mission initiated by the State NSS to support the affected families.

Recognizing the urgent need for rehabilitation, the State NSS took a significant step by pledging to rebuild 150 houses for the affected families. To accomplish this goal,all NSS units across the state were directed to contribute by raising funds through various means.

Vidya NSS Units’ Fundraising Efforts

Vidya NSS Units took proactive steps to mobilize resources and raise funds for the relief effort. The fundraising campaign was carried out through the following initiatives:

  1. Donations from Various Sources
    • Contributions were collected from faculty members, students, alumni and well-wishers.
    • Various departments and administrative bodies of Vidya Academy of Science and Technology extended their generous support.
  2. Scrap Collection Drive
    • Vidya NSS Units organized a scrap collection campaign, encouraging students and staff to donate recyclable materials.
    • The proceeds from selling these collected materials were added to the relief fund.

Total Funds Raised

Through these collective efforts, Vidya NSS Units successfully raised a total amount of 1,03,450/-(One Lakh Three Thousand Four Hundred and Fifty Rupees only). This amount was subsequently handed over to the State NSS Officer’s account to be utilized in the rebuilding project.

The overwhelming support and active participation from the Vidya NSS community in the Wayanad Flood Relief Campaign showcased the commitment of our volunteers toward humanitarian service. By contributing to the State NSS’s initiative, Vidya NSS Units played a vital role in helping the affected families rebuild their homes and regain stability.
