Leprosy Awareness Session by Vidya NSS Units
The NSS units of Vidya Academy of Science and Technology are committed to addressing various social issues and conducting awareness programs to educate and engage students in societal concerns. As part of this initiative, Vidya NSS organized a Leprosy Awareness Session on 31 January 2025 to spread knowledge about leprosy, its causes, prevention and the social stigma surrounding it.
Objective of the Session
The primary objective of this session was to educate students on leprosy, dispel common myths, and emphasize the importance of early detection and treatment. The program aimed to foster empathy and awareness among students, equipping them with knowledge that could help eliminate misconceptions about the disease.
Session Proceedings
The event was hosted at Vidya Academy of Science and Technology and was successfully organized by Vidya NSS units. The session commenced with a welcome address by Ms. Delmy David V (NSS Programme Officer and Asst Prof, CSE Dept) setting the stage for an insightful discussion on leprosy awareness.
Dr. Susan Basil (Department of Community Medicine) served as a resource person. Dr. Susan Basil provided valuable insights into the medical aspects of leprosy, its symptoms, transmission, treatment, and the crucial role of early diagnosis in controlling the disease.
