Vidya NSS Units celebrate World Environment Day with Tree Marathon and Sustainable Initiatives
The NSS Units of Vidya marked World Environment Day with a series of impactful events that reflected the volunteers’ strong commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement on 05 June 2025. The program began on an inspiring note with the soulful rendition of “Manavageetham”, setting a serene and purposeful atmosphere. This was followed by the formal inauguration by Dr. Sunitha C (Principal) who addressed the volunteers and emphasized the vital role of youth in preserving nature and promoting sustainable practices. Ms. Delmy David V (NSS Program Officer, Asst Prof, CSE Dept) and Ms. Anu Maria Antony (NSS Program Officer, Asst Prof, CE Dept) delivered motivational messages that encouraged students to actively participate in environmental protection initiatives. Their words inspired a renewed sense of responsibility among the attendees. Adding significance to the occasion, Mr. Suresh (Member Velur Panchayath Planning Committee) interacted with the volunteers and lauded their efforts. He expressed his full support and urged the students to continue their valuable contributions toward the betterment of the local environment. A pledge-taking ceremony followed, during which all volunteers solemnly vowed to protect nature and promote eco-friendly habits. In a symbolic gesture of commitment, the Principal planted a sapling on the campus, reinforcing the institution’s dedication to a greener future. One of the standout initiatives of the day was the distribution of handmade paper pens, crafted by the NSS volunteers. These eco-friendly pens were gifted to the Principal, NSS Program Officers, and Mr. Suresh—highlighting the importance of sustainable alternatives in everyday life. The highlight of the celebrations was the Tree Marathon, held across various regions of Velur Panchayath. Guided by Mr. Suresh, the volunteers planted 44 saplings in multiple locations and also distributed the handmade paper pens to households in the area. This initiative not only beautified the locality but also raised awareness about sustainable living among the residents. The event’s success was largely attributed to the dedicated coordination of Aswathy E S (NSS Volunteer Secretary, S6, CSE Dept) and Ann Rose Rajan (NRPF Unit Coordinator, S6, AIML Dept).Their meticulous planning ensured the smooth execution of each segment of the program. The celebration of World Environment Day by the Vidya NSS Unit stood as a shining example of unity, environmental responsibility, and community service—values that lie at the heart of the institution’s vision for holistic development.
