CE Dept conducts five day hands-on ETABSETABS Training Program
With an aim to enhance students understanding of structural analysis and design using ETABS, a widely used software in the field of structural engineering, the Dept of Civil Engineering successfully conducted a 5-day hands-on training program on ETABS (Extended Three-Dimensional Analysis of Building Systems) during 16 – 20 June 2025.
The main objectives of the section was to introduce students to structural modeling and analysis using ETABS.To impart practical skills in designing multi-storey building frames.
Day | Topics Covered |
Day 1 | Introduction to ETABS: User Interface, Basic Commands, Grid & Story Settings ,Defining storey data ,View and selection data, Assigning of model properties |
Day 2 | Selection ,editing and Load case definitions : Selecting objects,Different commands was introduced, editing options and shells ,load case definitions |
Day 3 | Load Assignments: Dead Load, Live Load, Wind & Seismic Loads,Defining shell uniform Load sets, response spectrum analysis ,locking and unlocking models |
Day 4 | Structural Analysis and Design (IS 456:2000, IS 1893:2016),Results and Exercises :Study of bending ,torsion and shear for beams ,Checking overall stability for structures, Basic graphical displays , Design of column ,beams and slabs was done and their results ,reports comparison with manual calculations are made ,Exercise section had been done |
Day 5 | Detailing, Result Interpretation, Report Generation & Doubt Clearing : beam and column detailing ,steel design and detailing ,Result generation was made . |
The training sessions were handled by Mr Ramkumar R K (Assistant Engineers, Intercad Systems Pvt Ltd) and Ms Jiji L Jayan (Assistant Engineers, Intercad Systems Pvt Ltd). The section was assisted by faculty members from the Civil Engineering Department.A total of 40 students from S7 B.Tech Civil Engineering attended the training. The participants were enthusiastic and actively engaged in practical sessions.
Students acquired hands-on experience in modeling and analyzing building structures.Familiarity with design codes and report preparation in ETABS improved. Feedback were collected from participants indicated high satisfaction with the training quality, practical relevance, and resource person’s expertise.
The Editorial Team of News & Events joins the entire Vidya fraternity in extending heartfelt congratulations to the entire CE Dept on the successful conduct of the session that familiarize participants with seismic and valuable addition to the academic curriculum, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application !!! |
