Career Guidance Session on GATE 2026

A career guidance session about “Opportunities through GATE” was provided for the final year B. Tech students of the 2026 graduating batch on 01 August 2025. The session were handled two Professors from Indian Institute of Science, (IISc., Bangalore)

Mr. P Prashanth Prasannakumar, from M. Tech CDS 2024-26 explained to the students about the various Post Graduate programs available at IISc., and on how to gain entry for these PG courses, some of which are inter disciplinary in nature. Thereby, students from any branch of their UG program can pursue such courses. One example is the Computational Data Science (CDS) program at IISc. Clearing GATE is important. Mr. Prashanth also provided an overview about IISc, Bangalore, about its foundation, organizational structure, and the research programs across different domains. A new hospital is being setup by IISc to promote research in the medical field. Even the Common Admission Test (CAT) is a valid score for certain programs at the institute.

The next speaker was Mr. Shjiu Aravindakshan M (Research Scholar at Instrumentation and Applied Physics Department at IISc. Bangalore). He informed the students about the GATE examination in general, the pattern, the type of questions, and on how to prepare for this examination. Most importantly, the GATE examination does not include counselling. Thereby, students must register for the courses of their choice at their preferred institutes separately. Same is the case with placements; interested students must aim to clear the GATE examination and then apply individually for the placements viz. at the leading public sector companies on a case to case basis.

The session concluded with a question and answer session in which both the resource persons actively answered the student queries.

GATE examination is generally held on the first and second Saturday and Sunday of February each year. Generally the GATE score is valid for a period of 3 years. To meet the growing demands, this year the exam may be held on the third Saturday and Sunday also.
