IGNITE 2025 – Empowering Minds: Orientation Program for VSEC Volunteers

Vidya Social Empowerment Centre (VSEC) welcomed new student volunteers through IGNITE 2025,the orientation program of VSEC (an initiative of the Vidya International Charitable Trust (VICT)) held on 2 August 2025. The event was designed to warmly welcome new student volunteers and equip them with a comprehensive understanding of the center’s mission, vision, and operational ethos. The program introduced the participants to the center’s mission, vision, and core ethos. Through a blend of insightful sessions and interactive activities, the program aimed to cultivate a strong sense of community and commitment among the new members.

The proceedings began with a heartfelt prayer delivered by Ann Mariya Stephan (VSEC volunteer,S7, EEE Dept) a  which set a calm and purposeful tone for the day. The event’s flow was expertly guided by the anchoring of Arun Babu (VSEC volunteer,S7, EEE Dept) who ensured the program progressed smoothly and kept the audience engaged.

Following the opening, Dr. Siju K. C (Head, VSEC and Asso. Prof, AS Dept)  took the stage to officially welcome the new volunteers. Her address provided a detailed introduction to VSEC, explaining its foundational goals and the vital role it plays in empowering communities. She shared the center’s philosophy and highlighted how it works to create a just and compassionate society through various outreach initiatives.

The orientation was filled with several engaging sessions. A unique ice-breaking session encouraged new members to introduce themselves by describing their lives ten years into the future. This creative approach fostered a comfortable atmosphere, allowing students to connect on a personal level and share their aspirations. This was followed by a dynamic game session facilitated by Anagha Sudharshan (S7, CSE B) and Anjay Krishnan (S7, EEE Dept). The activity involved splitting students into teams and tasking them with role-playing a given topic, a challenge the students embraced with great enthusiasm and creativity.

The interactive sessions continued with a powerful talk by Ann Rose Rajan (S7, AIML), who delved into the core human values of kindness, responsibility, respect, empathy, and gratitude. This was complemented by a session from Ann Mariya Stephan (S7, EEE Dept), who spoke on the impact of positive and negative attitudes. Both speakers connected these values directly to VSEC’s mission, providing a clear and inspiring pathway for new volunteers to contribute meaningfully. Arjun Krishna K U (S7, EEE Dept) handled the media coverage of the event.

The smooth planning and organization of the event were significantly supported by Ms. Surabhi M S (VSEC Member, Asst Librarian), who was also instrumental in the final process of assigning new volunteers to various wings of VSEC based on their interests. Ms. Akhila R (SAP Representative, Asst Prof, EEE  Dept) was also present, lending her support to the program.
