Celebrating Vidya alumnus Dr. Shins K for achieving his Ph.D, exemplifying dedication, research excellence and innovation

Vidya takes immense pride in celebrating the academic excellence of our alumnus Mr Shins K (2010-14 Batch, ME Dept) who  has been awarded the prestigious Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degree from IIT Madras 

The doctoral research focused on ‘Some Studies on Interface Related Problems in Bimaterial and Granular Media using Digital Photoelasticity and Finite Elements’ under the guidance of Prof. K. Ramesh (Department of Applied Mechanics,IIT Madras) contributed significantly to advancements in the field. This remarkable achievement stands as a testimony to the strong academic foundation nurtured at Vidya and the relentless pursuit of knowledge by its alumni.This thesis investigates two interface related problems: the interaction between a bimaterial interfacial crack and a nearby material crack and the analysis of granular-solid interfaces.The crack interaction is studied numerically and validated using photoelasticity experiments. A pilot study on granular interfaces is conducted using photoelasticity; towards this, closed form stress and displacement field equations for a disk in equilibrium subjected to arbitrary loads are derived.

Mr. Shins, who has worked as a Junior Research Fellow in the ME Department received several distinguished honors.After completing his studies, he joined Vidya as an Assistant Professor. Driven by his passion for research and academic growth, he later relinquished this position to take on the more challenging, though lesser-paid, role of  Research Fellow in Vidya, furthering his contributions to knowledge, innovation, and the academic community.
