CSE faculty members attend AI Summit 2025

With an aim to advance India’s leadership in responsible AI innovation, the AI Summit 2025 was held on 27 September 2025 at Government Engineering College (GEC), Thrissur. The event brought together leading academics, industry experts, and policymakers under the theme “Transforming Cultural Capital to AI Capital.” It highlighted how Thrissur, Kerala’s cultural capital, is emerging as a hub for transformative AI initiatives in India.

Vidya was represented by Ms. Neethu George (Asst Prof, CSE Dept)and Ms. Sreekala R,  (Asst Prof, CSE Dept) who actively participated in the summit’s sessions and discussions.

The summit commenced with a keynote by Prof. Mitesh Khapra, (Asso Prof ,IIT Madras and Founder of AI4Bharat) on “Sovereign AI: Our Strategic Necessity.” Prof. Khapra emphasized the need for Indian Large Language Models (LLMs) and highlighted national projects like AI4Bharat and Bhashini, which aim to democratize AI for Indian languages. He also stressed the importance of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) for culturally aligned AI applications and India’s vision for data ownership, inclusivity, and self-reliance in AI.

Panel Discussions
The summit featured two major panels:

  • Panel 1: AI Risks, Rewards & Road Ahead, moderated by Ashwin Uthappa, discussed ethical and security concerns, digital transformation opportunities across banking, aviation, and consulting, and the balance between innovation and responsible AI governance.

  • Panel 2: BYFM – Build Your Foundation Model, moderated by Dr. Balamurali A R, highlighted the importance of open-source foundation models tailored to India’s linguistic and cultural diversity. Panelists emphasized collaboration between academia and industry to develop scalable AI solutions and the future of generative AI for enterprises.

Leading organizations, including Air India, Accenture, South Indian Bank, Dhanalakshmi Bank, Knorr Bremse, Armada AI, Sandisk, RABEH Financial, and Maverick 360, contributed real-world perspectives on AI adoption and strategy, enhancing the summit’s practical impact.

The AI Summit 2025 marked the beginning of a movement to position Kerala and India as leaders in sovereign AI innovation. With discussions on Indian LLMs, RAG, and AI4Bharat/Bhashini, the summit underscored the importance of building AI solutions tailored to India’s unique needs. Collaboration among academia, industry, and policymakers set the stage for India’s responsible leadership in AI-driven transformation.
