Scrap Collection Drive by Vidya NSS to support Home for Homeless Project

As part of the ongoing efforts to promote environmental responsibility and support community welfare, the NSS Units of Vidya Academy of Science and Technology organized a Scrap Collection Drive on 15th August 2025, coinciding with the celebration of Independence Day. The initiative was conducted both within the college campus and in Velur Panchayath households, with the objective of collecting recyclable scrap materials and contributing the proceeds to a social cause.

The drive was carried out in active coordination with local households and campus departments, where volunteers approached residents and collected scrap items such as old newspapers, plastic materials, metal pieces, and other recyclable waste. A total of 45 enthusiastic NSS volunteers participated in this activity, dedicating their time and energy to ensure the success of the drive.

After the collection phase, the accumulated scrap materials were sold to authorized scrap dealers. The total proceeds from this sale were carefully calculated and transferred to the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (APJAKTU) NSS Cell Bank Account, in compliance with the guidelines provided by the University NSS Cell. The purpose of this contribution aligns with the University’s flagship initiative to support the Home for Homeless Project, aimed at completing the construction of homes for identified beneficiaries.

The following NRPF Unit Coordinators actively coordinated the program to ensure smooth execution:

Unit 101 – Vishnudev M S (S5, ME Dept), Nandhana K S (S5, EEE Dept)

Unit 200 – Adhithya Sahadevan (S5,EEE Dept), Chanjal Chandran (S5, CSE Dept)

Unit 662 – Amal Susilkumar (S5, ME Dept), Hrudhya Yesudas (S5, AIML Dept)

Unit 663 – Mohd Rizwan P (S5, EEE Dept), Krishnaja P S (S5, CSE Dept)

The program was effectively coordinated under the guidance of Mr. Ranjith E R (NSS Program Officer, Asst Prof, ME Dept) and Ms. Delmy David V (NSS Program Officer, Asst Prof,CSE Dept).

This initiative not only provided a platform for the volunteers to engage in socially responsible activities but also created awareness about sustainable waste management practices among the local community. The active participation and enthusiasm shown by the volunteers, under the able guidance of the coordinators and faculty members, are highly commendable and reflect their dedication to the values of the National Service Scheme.
