NSS Tree Tag Training Session under Carbon Neutrality Mass Internship

To equip NSS volunteers with practical knowledge and technical skills in tree tagging—an essential component of environmental sustainability and carbon neutrality initiatives—the NSS Tree Tag Training Session was successfully conducted on 26 August 2025 as part of the Carbon Neutrality Mass Internship Programme, jointly organized by the University NSS Cell, Haritha Keralam Mission, and Kerala Startup Mission.

Objectives
  • To raise awareness about the importance of tree tagging in environmental monitoring and biodiversity conservation.

  • To provide hands-on training in using the Tree Tag Site platform for tree tagging.

  • To motivate NSS volunteers to actively participate in the government’s Carbon Neutrality Mission by documenting tree growth and health.

The session commenced with an introductory address by Mr. Ranjith E R (NSS Programme Officer and Asst Prof, CE Dept)  who highlighted the purpose of the Carbon Neutrality Mass Internship Programme and its relevance in promoting sustainable, green practices.

The key resource person, Mr. Thareehul Faris (NRPF Student Regional Coordinator) led the technical session. He elaborated on the significance of tree tagging and gave a step-by-step demonstration of the tagging process using the digital platform.

As part of the practical session, Mr. Thareehul demonstrated the tagging of a tree planted by the NSS team on World Environment Day, illustrating the real-world application of the tool.

Approximately 50 NSS volunteers actively participated in the training. Through the hands-on demonstration, they gained practical experience in using digital tools for environmental conservation. The volunteers are now well-prepared to continue tagging trees planted under the Haritha Keralam Mission across various locations, thereby contributing to the state’s carbon neutrality goals.

This initiative also served to strengthen collaboration between the University NSS Cell, Haritha Keralam Mission, and Kerala Startup Mission, highlighting the importance of collective action for sustainable development.

The Editorial Team of News & Events joins the entire Vidya fraternity in extending hearty appreciations to all involved on the successful conduct of the session that fosters stronger collaboration and underscores the significance of collective efforts toward sustainable development !!!
