VSEC Head guides interactive session on ‘Exploring Mensuration – Part B’
sGuided by the Vidya International Charitable Trust, VSEC (Vidya Social Empowerment Center) nurtures students by equipping them with knowledge, skills, and confidence to excel personally and professionally.
Dr. Siju K. C (Head, VSEC and Asso. Prof, AS Dept) conducted the second session in the Exploring Mensuration – Part B series for the scholarship students of the Kovilagath Foundation. The session focused on extending the understanding of mensuration from two-dimensional shapes to three-dimensional solids, reinforcing concepts introduced in Part A.
This session focused on expanding students’ understanding of mensuration from two-dimensional shapes to three-dimensional solids. Dr. Siju K. C. reviewed formulas for the area and perimeter of 2D shapes, as well as the surface area and volume of cubes and cuboids, highlighting how these measurements relate to real-world applications such as construction, storage design, and packaging.
A major highlight of the session was a hands-on activity where students derived and verified formulas for a cylinder’s Curved Surface Area (CSA), Total Surface Area (TSA), and Volume. Through guided explanations and visualizations, learners developed a deeper appreciation of how geometry quantifies space and surfaces.
The session was lively and participatory, fostering an intuitive grasp of spatial reasoning and formula derivation. It built effectively on concepts introduced in Part A and prepared students for the next stage of the series—deriving formulas for conical shapes in Part C.
| The Editorial Team of News & Events joins the entire Vidya fraternity in extending heartiest congratulations to Dr. Siju on the engaging virtual session that deepens students’ understanding of mensuration and fosters practical application, spatial reasoning, and hands-on learning !!! |
