VRC in collaboration with Vidya Central Library and ISTE organizes a workshop on ‘Academic Publishing – Platforms, Metrics, and AI Tools for Academic Writing

Vidya takes every efforts to strengthen the research capabilities of faculty by familiarizing them with modern tools and strategies for academic publishing

In align with this mission, Vidya under the auspices of Vidya Research Center (VRC), in association with Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), and National Digital Library of India (NDLI) of  Vidya Central Library conducted a workshop on Academic Publishing – Platforms, Metrics, and AI Tools for Academic Writing on 25 November 2025. The programme was designed to equip faculty members with practical knowledge and skills in scholarly publishing, including identifying suitable journals, understanding research metrics, and leveraging AI tools to improve academic writing.”

The session commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Nisanth P. (Asst Prof, AIML Dept).Dr.S Swapna Kumar (HoD, ECE Dept) delivered   presidential address.

Dr. Prasanth M (Librarian, Dept of Commerce & Management Studies, University of Calicut) served as the resource person. Dr.Prasanth provided a comprehensive overview of scholarly publishing platforms and explored various journal metrics such as Impact Factor, CiteScore, SJR, and h-index to help faculty evaluate journals effectively. Participants were introduced to indexing databases including Scopus, Web of Science, and UGC-CARE, and learned techniques for selecting suitable journals for publication. The session also highlighted the use of AI tools for academic writing, citation management, and improving manuscript quality, complemented by hands-on demonstrations of specific tools and platforms to provide practical experience.

A total of 43 faculty members participated, and feedback highlighted the clarity, usefulness, and practical relevance of the session, successfully equipping them with the knowledge and skills required to navigate the academic publishing process confidently.The session concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Mr. P. C. Girish Kumar (Librarian).

The workshop successfully achieved its aim of equipping faculty members with essential knowledge and tools for effective academic publishing.The event was co-ordinated by Dr. Sooraj K Prabha (Head,VRC, Prof, ME Dept), Mr. P. C. Girish Kumar (Librarian) and Mr Sarath Babu Ramachandran (Secretary, ISTE VAST, Asst Prof – Sel. Grade, ME Dept)
