Vidya Champions Mental Well-being through NSS & VSSC activities
Vidya takes a step ahead in promoting mental health awareness, fostering open and positive conversations, and breaking long-standing stigmas through creative expression as an effective medium of communication.
World Mental Health Day, observed annually on 10 October 2025 aims to create awareness about mental health and encourage positive conversations on mental well-being. As part of the observance of World Mental Health Day, National Service Scheme (NSS) in association with Vidya Student Support Cell (VSSC) organized a series of creative competitions to promote awareness and reflection on the importance of mental well-being among students.
The competitions were conducted under the theme Breaking the Stigma, encouraging participants to express their thoughts and perspectives on mental health through creative mediums. The events included:
Reel Making Competition encouraged participants to create short and impactful reels focusing on mental health awareness, stigma reduction, and positive coping mechanisms, with the rules and submission link provided through the official poster. Similarly, the Poster Making Competition enabled students to design creative posters highlighting the significance of mental well-being and the need to normalize open conversations around mental health, thereby fostering awareness and empathy among the student community.

Following the competition, VSSC and NSS organized a function on 20 November 2025 to recognize and honor students who demonstrated excellence and creativity in the Reel Making and Poster Making Competitions, appreciating their efforts in promoting mental health awareness through impactful visual and artistic expression.
The programme commenced with a flash mob and a welcome address by Ms Lathika ((Student Counselor), who briefly outlined the objectives and significance of the programme.Dr. Sunitha C (Principal) spoke on the occasion and presented the gifts to the winners, appreciating their creative contributions. Mr. Rajesh S K (NSS Program Officer, Asso Prof, EEE Dept) appreciated the winners and the flash mob performance, commending their efforts in promoting mental health awareness through creative expression.
The event was successfully coordinated by NSS volunteers Anamika Sebastian (S5, ECE Dept) and Rashmi V. R. (S5, ECE Dept) with the guidance of Mr. Ranjith E. R.(NSS Program Officer, Asst Prof, ME Dept) and Ms. Delmy David V (NSS Program Officer, Asst Prof, CSE Dept) and under the leadership of Dr. Jiby Jose (VSSC Convener, Prof , Applied Sciences and Humanities Dept).
