National Science Day AION 2026 nurtures scientific temper

The Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities celebrates National Science Day every year to promote scientific awareness among students and to cultivate scientific temper, innovation and research interest among budding engineers.

AION 2026, the National Science Day celebration organized by the Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities, was held on 27 February 2026 at Pranavam Auditorium. The event aimed to promote scientific awareness and inspire curiosity and research-oriented thinking among students.

Program objectives

  • To celebrate National Science Day and promote scientific awareness among students.

  • To encourage scientific temper, innovation, and research interest.

  • To provide a platform for students to showcase their knowledge through competitions.

  • To inspire students through interaction with an eminent scientist and researcher.

  • To foster public trust and understanding of science and its societal relevance.

Dr. T. V. Vimalkumar (Assistant Professor & Research Guide, Department of Physics, St.Thomas’ College (Autonomous, Thrissur) served as the invited speaker for the National Science Day Celebrations – AION 2026 and delivered an insightful talk on “Fostering Public Trust in Science,” emphasizing scientific integrity, responsible research practices, and effective science communication.

The function commenced with a prayer, followed by a welcome address delivered by Dr. Nisha. A.B (HoD, Applied Sciences& Humanities Dept) . The Presidential Address was delivered by Dr. Sunitha C (Principal), who highlighted the importance of science in societal progress and encouraged students to develop a strong research mindset.

The formal inauguration was marked by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries.

As part of the celebration, Paper Presentation and Poster Presentation competitions were conducted, providing students with a platform to present innovative ideas and scientific knowledge. The competitions witnessed enthusiastic participation and showcased the academic potential of the students.

The highlight of the program was the invited talk by Dr. T. V. Vimalkumar on the topic “Fostering Public Trust in Science.” The session emphasized the importance of scientific integrity, effective communication, and responsible research practices in strengthening public confidence in science. The talk was highly inspiring, informative, and interactive, engaging students in meaningful discussion.

The event was successfully organized under the leadership of Dr. Vineetha C.P (Asso Prof, Applied Sciences and Humanities Dept) as Convener, with Mr. Liju Augustian (Asso Prof, Applied Sciences and Humanities Dept) and Mr. Manu P. R (Asso Prof, Applied Sciences and Humanities Dept) serving as Co-conveners, who efficiently coordinated all activities and ensured the smooth execution of AION 2026.
