NSS volunteers conduct GIS mapping of Velur

On 19 December 2021, a group of NSS volunteers conducted a GIS mapping of Velur Panchayath. Around 15 volunteers participated in the work and collected the required details and uploaded the same. GIS MGNREGA KERALA app was used for the mapping.

Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act” or MGNREGA, is an Indian labour law and social security measure that aims to guarantee the “right to work”. This act was passed on 23 August 2005. Under this scheme, GIS based integrated plans are prepared to collect, store and analyze data related to assets created in the panchayaths and also to manage them more effectively along with better understanding of their impact/outcome. As per the directions of Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), all the permissible works under MGNREGA, which are suitable for a Gramapanchayath shall be included in the GIS Based Plan. The GIS mapping work done by our volunteers was well appreciated by the panchayath authorities.
