Asst Librarian presents paper at the International Seminar on Future Libraries : Beyond Walls
The transformative role of libraries can play in fostering diversity and inclusion through the strategic use of digital tools, partnerships, and outreach. Libraries are evolving beyond their traditional functions to become vital agents of social change, inclusion, and sustainability.
Ms Surabhi M S (Asst Librarian) presented a paper entitled ‘ organised by the Prof. K A Issac Society for Library and Information Science in collaboration with Department of Library and Information Science, University of Kerala at the International Seminar on Future Libraries: Beyond Walls organized by the University of Kerala,Thiruvananthapuram from 08–10 July 2025.
This paper ‘Reimagining Smart Libraries : Engaging Minds and Enriching Communities at the Heart of Community Hubs – A Case Study in Grassroots Innovation’ investigates strategies for libraries to extend their reach beyond traditional spaces, leveraging technology and community partnerships to remain relevant. It argues that through inclusive digital engagement and a commitment to equity, libraries can continue to serve as pillars of informed, resilient communities.
She presented the case study by taking Vidya Academy of Science & Technology with UG and PG students and research scholars. Drawing on real-world examples and best practices, this study underscores how libraries can address social inequalities and remain indispensable in meeting the evolving needs of diverse communities and highlights how libraries promote social justice, foster learning at all stages of life, and contribute to a more connected and resilient society.
