Academic Director delivers an expert talk on “Research and Innovation in the Era of AI” at IE(I), Thrissur

Vidya fraternity aimed to broaden the knowledge and awareness of students and faculty regarding the latest developments in artificial intelligence, foster innovative thinking in engineering research and motivate participants to explore emerging AI technologies and their practical applications.

Dr. Shalij P.R. (Academic Director,VICT) delivered an insightful session titled “Research and Innovation in the Era of AI” on 28 August 2025. This expert talk, organized by the Institution of Engineers (India),Thrissur Local Centre was held at  IE(I) Hall, ISTE Building, Viyyur, Thrissur, and witnessed active participation from the students and faculty members of Vidya Academy of Science & Technology (VAST).Dr. Shalij’s session provided invaluable insights into emerging AI technologies and their applications in engineering research, inspiring attendees to explore innovative solutions and underscoring his pivotal role in promoting knowledge and innovation in the field.

The program commenced with a warm welcome extended to corporate members of IE(I), faculty, and students. A special highlight was the felicitation of Er. K. U. Varunny, MIE, who was honored for his remarkable achievement of securing 17 individual patents, reflecting exceptional dedication to engineering innovation. During the talk, Dr. Shalij P.R. provided an engaging and insightful overview of various types of AI relevant to research and innovation, including Narrow AI, Generative AI, and the emerging concept of Agentic AI, where AI systems function as autonomous agents capable of planning, learning, and executing tasks independently. He elaborated on how these advancements are reshaping engineering fields and creating new research opportunities. The session greatly enhanced participants’ understanding of current technological trends and inspired them to explore further avenues in AI-driven research.
