VICT : A Quarter-Century of Lighting the Path of Knowledge and Service
Guided by the inspiring principles of Sree Narayana Gurudevan—“Be strong through organisation” and “Be enlightened through education”—and motivated by a deep commitment to their homeland, a group of expatriates came together to establish Vidya International Charitable Trust (VICT). Over the past 25 years, the trust has dedicated itself to selfless service, spreading the light of knowledge and opportunity.
Founded in 2000, VICT’s core vision was to deliver high-quality professional education to academically talented yet economically disadvantaged students in Kerala, providing financial support to bridge the gap in access to quality education at the time. The trust’s strength lies in the fact that its trustees and office bearers associated with Vidya derive no personal benefit, ensuring that all efforts remain focused on societal impact.
Over the last quarter-century, VICT has established two engineering colleges and a training centre in Kerala, disbursed over ?91 crore in scholarships to more than 6,300 economically disadvantaged students, and undertaken a wide range of social service initiatives, creating lasting benefits for students and communities alike.
Vidya Foundation
In its Silver Jubilee year, VICT proudly launched the Vidya Foundation, marking a new chapter in its ongoing mission to empower students through sustainable financial support and academic excellence. Mr. Thilakan K.K. (Vice Chairman, VICT), in his address during the launch, fondly recalled the invaluable contributions of Er. K.R. Brahmadathan (Founder Executive Director, VICT), one of the key figures involved in the establishment of Vidya and Dr. D. Balakrishnan (Founder Academic Director and Honorary Advisor,VICT), a visionary educationist and trailblazer. He acknowledged how their foresight, dedication, and leadership laid the strong foundation for the trust’s remarkable journey.
Vidya Foundation Launch by Mr. Gireesh Kumar Malattiri (Chairman, VICT)
Mr. Gireesh Kumar Malattiri (Chairman, VICT) The recent session on the Vidya Foundation (VF) was a powerful reminder that our institution is building a legacy far beyond the classroom. It is incredibly motivating to see the scale of impact already achieved, with over Rs 91.54 Crores in financial assistance provided and more than 15,100 students enrolled across two engineering colleges. Knowing that thousands of peers have accessed scholarships and placement support creates a strong sense of security and demonstrates the college’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder professional success or graduation.
During the session, Mr. Gireesh Kumar Malattiri (Chairman, VICT) addressed the gathering and emphasized the transformative role of the Vidya Foundation. The Chairman highlighted that the foundation is not merely a source of financial aid, but a strategic initiative to empower students, foster academic excellence, and support innovation. Drawing inspiration from world-class institutions like Harvard and Yale, he explained the transition to a perpetual endowment model, which involves professionally managing funds and inviting “Potential Named Endowments” from alumni and corporate partners to ensure the sustainability of this support system
Mr. Gireesh further stressed that this forward-looking approach guarantees long-term institutional stability and assures that future generations of students will benefit from the same—or even enhanced—quality of resources and financial backing. According to the Chairman, such visionary leadership reinforces the confidence that a degree from Vidya is backed by a sustainable, socially responsible, and globally-aligned institution, and equips students to thrive in a rapidly evolving professional landscape.
