Alumni talk on Career Opportunities in the Government Sector
The Department of Civil Engineering provides students with valuable insights into diverse career opportunities, including positions in the government sector.
The Department of Civil Engineering at Vidya Academy of Science and Technology organized an alumni interaction session for its students on 16th January 2026, featuring Mr. Jagat J. A. ( Assistant Engineer – Administration & Planning, Public Works Department (PWD – Administration), Thiruvananthapuram, 2015-19 batch,CE Dept)
During the session, Mr. Jagat shared valuable insights from his professional journey in the PWD, drawing upon his experiences in both current and previous roles. He elaborated on career pathways, preparation strategies, and essential competencies required to secure prestigious government engineering positions, offering practical guidance to aspiring civil engineers.
A major highlight of the talk was his emphasis on Transportation Engineering, in which he holds a specialization from NIT Surathkal, Karnataka. He highlighted the crucial role of transportation systems in societal development, focusing on sustainable transportation, urban mobility, traffic management, and infrastructure planning. Mr. Jagat also emphasized the growing demand for transportation engineers in government sectors such as PWD, National Highways, Metro Rail projects, and Urban Transport Authorities, along with expanding career opportunities driven by Smart City initiatives and sustainability goals.
The interaction proved highly informative and motivating, enabling students to gain clarity on government sector expectations, higher studies, skill development, and long-term career planning. Students actively participated in discussions, seeking guidance on competitive examinations, specialization choices, and emerging opportunities in the transportation domain.
