VSEC conducts project presentation titled ‘Integrated Waste Management Systems and Circular Bio-Energy Frameworks.’

With an aim to promote awareness of sustainable waste management practices and encourage the adoption of circular resource recovery systems, Vidya Social Empowerment Center (VSEC), an initiative of the Vidya International Charitable Trust (VICT), conducted Training Wing Project Presentation titled “Integrated Waste Management Systems and Circular Bio-Energy Frameworks”.The programme was conducted as an internal academic session to present the findings, case studies, survey analysis, and proposed solutions developed as part of the project. The session was held in offline mode and had a duration of one hour.

The presentation was delivered by Muhammed Aslam V A (S8, ME Dept), Varghese E S (S8, AIML Dept), Aysha Shafeek (S4, CSE Dept) and Devinandha V R (S4, CSE Dept) with active participation from students and faculty members. The session focused on the current challenges of waste management in Kerala, emphasizing the need for integrated waste management systems and circular economy approaches for sustainable development.?

The presentation discussed various waste management strategies, including source segregation, composting, vermicomposting, biogas production, sewage treatment, e-waste management, and waste-to-energy technologies. A case study of Sarvodayam V.H.S School, Aryampadam was also presented, highlighting the institution’s systematic waste segregation practices, aerobic composting unit, food waste-to-pig farm linkage, and municipality-supported waste management system. Survey findings on waste generation patterns and existing loopholes in waste collection and segregation were also analyzed.

In addition, the session introduced innovative proposals such as biomass fuel pellet production from garden waste, centralized biogas systems for residential flats, and AI-based smart waste bins for automated segregation. The presentation emphasized the importance of combining community participation, policy support, and technological innovation to achieve a sustainable and circular waste management framework.

The presentation facilitated meaningful discussions among participants regarding practical waste management solutions, environmental sustainability, and the future scope of resource recovery systems in Kerala. The interactive session encouraged knowledge sharing and critical thinking on addressing waste-related challenges through both behavioral and technological interventions.

The programme was organized by  Ms. Surabhi M. S. (VSEC Staff Member, Asst Librarian) under the guidance of Dr. Siju K. C. (Head – VSEC and Asso.
