Thrissur City Police Commissioner declares Vidya ‘Toofan Warriors’ as Vyvidh ’26 gets underway

The campus of Vidya Academy of Science and Technology witnessed a vibrant and meaningful beginning to Vyvidh ’26 with a curtain-raiser ceremony that combined technology, student talent, social awareness, and civic responsibility. The programme was particularly significant as the institution was officially declared ‘Toofan Warriors’ by Mr. Nakul Rajendra Deshmukh, IPS (Thrissur City Police Commissioner).
At the beginning of the programme, a video prepared by the Kerala Police as part of the Toofan initiative was screened. The video provided an introduction to Operation Toofan and highlighted the serious issue of drug and substance abuse.The video served as an effective introduction to the central message of the programme and created awareness among the students about their responsibility towards maintaining a safe and drug-free society.
Vidya NSS volunteers presented an energetic and impressive dance performance. The performance added colour and enthusiasm to the programme and created a lively atmosphere among the audience.The dance showcased the talent, creativity, coordination, and confidence of the students.
Mr. Naveen T. P (Joint Convener, Asst Prof, ME Dept) welcomed the distinguished guests, faculty members, student representatives, and students to the programme. In her presidential address, Dr. Sunitha C. (Principal) emphasized the importance of programmes that combine education, innovation, social responsibility and student participation.
Declaration of Vidya Academy as ‘Toofan Warriors’
The major highlight of the programme was the official declaration of Vidya Academy of Science and Technology as ‘Toofan Warriors’ by  Mr. Nakul Rajendra Deshmukh, IPS  (Thrissur City Police Commissioner) who was the chief guest.He explained the availability of drugs and other harmful substances in our locality and discussed their impact on individuals and society. He made us understand how substance abuse can gradually affect a person’s physical and mental well-being, relationships, education, career, and future.He particularly focused on how students and young people can be trapped or lured into drug use. Peer pressure, curiosity, misleading friendships, and various other factors can influence young people to experiment with substances.
During the ceremony, the Commissioner presented a plaque commemorating the declaration, which was received by the Principal on behalf of the institution. As part of the Toofan Warriors initiative, badges were presented by the Commissioner to the Principal, students and dignitaries present at the programme. The badges were ceremonially pinned on the recipients, symbolizing their commitment to the objectives of Operation Toofan and their collective responsibility to spread awareness about the dangers of drug abuse. An important part of the initiative was the Toofan Warriors pledge. The pledge was led by Mr. Saneesh Babu (ASI of Police, Thrissur Narcotic Cell).It symbolized the willingness of the students to take responsibility and become active participants in the fight against substance abuse.He also emphasized that students who face addiction should not be isolated or treated without compassion. Friends, teachers, and parents can play an important role in helping students overcome such difficulties. One statement that stood out was:“A true friend is someone who helps you get on the right track.”The programme was attended by several distinguished personalities, including Mr. Saju K. Abraham (ACP, Kunnamkulam), Mr. Anto Francis P. (Sub-Inspector of Police and Station House Officer, Erumappetty Police Station),  Mr. Suresh Lal (Executive Director, VICT) and Dr. Shalij P. R. (Director – Academics)
Mr Shibu P (ACP, Thrissur Narcotic Cell), spoke about Operation Toofan and the concept of Toofan Warriors. He explained the vision behind Operation Toofan and its efforts to reduce drug usage and create a safer society.He encouraged students to become responsible citizens and contribute to the objectives of Operation Toofan. He also highlighted the importance of helping people who are already affected by drug addiction rather than simply judging or rejecting them.P. N. Unnirajan, IPS (Retd.), SP, also addressed the gathering. He expressed his concerns regarding the growing problem of drug use and its consequences for society.He strongly emphasized the need for young people to stay away from drugs and other harmful substances.
Bringing Vyvidh ’26 to life, one page at a time
Mr. Nakul Rajendra Deshmukh, IPS (Thrissur City Police Commissioner) officially released the event brochure, which was handed over to him by Dr. Sunitha C. and Aswin T. R. (S7,CE Dept). The brochure was designed by Aswin and showcased the various details, programmes and highlights of the event.
The official Vyvidh ’26 website (www.vyvidh.vidyaacademy.ac.in) was also officially launched at the venue by the Commissioner. The launch of the VYVIDH ’26 website marked another significant milestone in the promotion and outreach of the event. Designed and developed by Arjun (S5, CSE Dept) and Aswin T. R. (S7, CE Dept), the website provides students, participants, and visitors with a convenient digital platform to explore event details, programmes, updates, and other essential information about VYVIDH ’26.

The programme also included an introduction to the upcoming Tech Fest, presented by Dr. Neenu Thomas (Convenor, Vyvidh, Asso Prof, EEE Dept).She provided a comprehensive explanation of the various programmes and activities planned for 15 and 17 October 2026, which helped the students gain a clear understanding of the purpose, schedule and structure of the Tech Fest.Manav Madhu (Toofan Campus Co-ordinator, S7, CSE Dept) delivered the vote of thanks on behalf of all the students.He expressed gratitude to all the guests, organizers, teachers, and everyone who contributed to making the programme meaningful and informative.The event was coordinated by Ms. Surabhi M. S. (Asst Librarian), Mr Anil M (Asst. Prof – Seln. Grade, ECE Dept), Dr. Neenu Thomas (Convenor, Vyvidh, Asso Prof, EEE Dept) and Mr. Naveen T. P (Joint Convener, Asst Prof, ME Dept) with the valuable support and guidance of the Tech Fest Central Committee Co ordinators Ms. Salkala K S.(Asst Prof- Sr Grade, MCA),Mr. Ranjith E R (Asst. Prof, ME Dept),Ms Resmi K. Rajan (Asst. Prof – Sr. Grade, ECE Dept), Dr Devika (Asst. Prof, AS Dept), Ms. Vismaya Sasi (Asst Prof, AIML Dept), Ms Soumya C J(Asst Prof, CSE Dept) and student volunteers .Their combined efforts, coordination, and dedication played an important role in ensuring the smooth and successful conduct of the programme.
