Kerala floods bring College life to a standstill

The unprecedented floods that ravaged the Kerala State during 15 – 21 August 2018 has brought life in more or less the entire Kerala State to a standstill. Vidya was no exception. Regular classes had to suspended on these days, the period of Onam holidays had to be rescheduled. The entire transportation system collapsed. The floods affected nearly every person living in Kerala in some way or other. The College worked only nominally during this period.

This message from Dr Sudha Balagopalan, Dean-Academics, dated Aug 16, 2018 at 10:26 AM, addressed to the Principal, Heads of Departments, and others, typifies the agony and the gravity of the tragedy that has affected all the people in Kerala:

“Dear sir,

Vacated our house and moved to brother’s house in Kizhakkumpattukara because water had got into our house. Water is still rising. Very few possessions in our hands now and don’t know when we can go home.
Don’t know when I’ll be able to come to college.

Regards,
Sudha”

All members of the Vidya family are deeply concerned about the suffering of the people of Kerala due to the unprecedented floods and other natural calamities. Considering the severity of this unprecedented calamity, Vidya has started a small initiative to raise a Relief Fund urgently to support the affected people.
