Principal flags off odd semester of new academic year

The ambience of the meeting was not relaxed but formal and official. Vidya is going through a crucial phase in its journey to become an institution as envisioned in its mission statement: “To seek, to strive for and to scale greater heights of quality education…“. Though Vidya is facing challenges from several fronts, the core values and strengths of the institution deeply ingrained in the minds and hearts of all in the Vidya family stand as a solid rock to keep the institution high and flying. This was the context in which the “Semester Flag Off Meeting”, the meeting which signals the flagging off of the activities of the new semester, was held in the Auditorium in forenoon of 29 July 2019. All the faculty and staff members of the College and all the Directors of VICT had been invited to participate in the meeting.

The meeting began with an invocation by Ms Keerthana T R (CE Dept) and a formal welcome address by Dr V N Krishnachandran, Vice-Principal.

The main event of the meeting was the “flagging off speech” by Dr Saji C B, Principal. He used the occasion to elaborate on his vision for the institution and his plan of action for the realisation of that vision. He also put forward an implementation plan for the academic schedule for the semester dwelling at length on the special challenges that may arise in this semester. This semester is particularly significant as the affiliating University, the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University,  has decided to implement a new syllabi and curricula for B Tech programmes from the academic year 2019 – 20 onward.

There was also a special talk by Dr Sudha Balagopalan emphasising the importance of doing research and projects. To inculcate a culture of research and projects in the College, especially among the students, she presented an elaborate plan with minute details that could be a basis for such an initiative.
