Sasthra Tharang 2019: Vidya’s unique initiative for science popularisation
The meeting together of school students, their teachers and members of the Vidya family under the banner of Sasthra Tharang 2019 was held in a festive ambience in the College Auditorium on 3 August 2019.
Sasthra Tharang 2019 was the second edition of a unique programme christened “Sasthra Tharang” conceived and implemented under the auspices of a special movement called “Science Awareness Programme (SAP)” initiated with the blessings of Er P K Asokan, Chief Patron, VICT, and supported and nourished by the faculty and staff of the College under the guidance of Dr Latha Raj, Student Welfare Director, VICT. The SAP movement has also obtained governmental support in the form of a grant from Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE). The first edition of Sasthra Tharang, “Sasthra Tharang 2018”, was held on 30 June 2018.
This second edition of Sasthra Tharang included a mega science quiz and a fun science exhibition.
The event saw participation of as many as 156 students and nine teachers from classes 8th to 12th standards from 14 different schools in and around Thrissur City. There were registrations of as many as 35 project teams and 37 quiz teams.
Inaugural ceremony
The inaugural session, presided over by Dr Saji C B, Principal, began with an invocation by Ms Nitha K P (AP, CSE Dept) and a welcome address by Dr Latha Raj P (Director, Students Welfare and Social Projects, VICT and Advisor, SAP). Dr N Raghu, Director, C-MET, Thrissur, delivered the inaugural address and the keynote speech. There was a special address by Dr Vimal Kumar T V, Assistant Professor, St Thomas College, Thrissur. Felicitations were offered by Er G mohanachandran, Executive Director, VICT. The session came to an end with a vote of thanks by Ms Akhila R (AP, EEE Dept and Convenor, SAP).
