As part of the various activities under the Science Awareness Programme, a movement started with the blessings of Er P K Asokan, Chief Patron, VICT, and supported and nourished by the faculty and staff of the College under the guidance of Dr Latha Raj, Student Welfare Director, VICT, a mega science quiz and fun science project exhibition christened “Sasthra Tharang 2018” was held on 30 June 2018 in the College Auditorium. The Kerala State Council for Science Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) has sanctioned a grant of Rs 2,80,000/- for implementation of the various projects under the Science Awareness Programme and Sasthra Tharang 2018 was one of these projects.
Around 300 students from 19 Aided and Government Schools in Thrissur District participated in the event.
The program started with an inaugural ceremony. The chief guest for the program was Dr K R Dayas, Former Director, C-MET, Thrissur and Special Officer in-charge, Vijnan Sagar, Ramavarmapuram. Dr Latha Raj welcomed all. The program was presided by Er G Mohanachandran, Executive Director, VICT. Er P K Asokan gave a special address. Mr Alex Chacko (AP, ME Dept and SAP Joint Convenor) introduced the chief guest. Ms Akhila R (AP, EEE Dept and SAP Convenor) proposed the vote of thanks.
The Quiz competition started with a written preliminary round. As many as 76 teams participated in the first round. After this, a documentary on nano-materials was shown by the Chief Guest. Simultaneously, the projects were set up for exhibition around the auditorium. As many as 22 teams of school students showcased their projects for the exhibition along with 15 science projects set up by NSS volunteers of the College and 12 electronics projects set up IEDC volunteers of Vidya. After the preliminary round, five teams were selected for the finals of the Quiz competition. Mr Hareesh K (AP, ME Dept) acted as the quiz-master for the final round .
Cash prizes worth Rs.12,000/- were given to the winners.
