10th edition of MCA Dept’s annual charity work in the time of COVID – 19

The students, faculty and staff of the MCA Dept of the College jointly organised a small charity work at Sandeepani Balasadanam, Mallissery Parambu, West Nada, Guruvayur, on 6 July 2020. The Balasadanam, working under Seva Bharathi, is a rehabilitation centre for destitute young boys. This charity work happens to be the tenth edition of the annual charity work the Dept has been organising for the last several years.

The main component of the work was a visit to the Balasadan and the donation of a high quality water purifier. The money for purchasing the purifier was collected by donations from all students of the current S6 MCA (2017 admissions) batch. In all the previous editions, all students of the final year MCA batches and all faculty and staff members used to be present at the place of the charity work. But, this year, due to the COVID – 19 induced lockdown and the consequent ban on gathering of people, only a few representative students and faculty members were present in the Balasadan to participate in the work. Ms Reji C Joy (Asso Prof, MCA Dept) and Mr Sajay K R (Asso Prof, MCA Dept) participated in the programme representing the faculty members.

The students and faculty members participated in the programme by observing all corona-related healthcare protocols like wearing face masks, maintaining social distance, using sanitzers, etc. The office bearers of the Balasadan profusely thanked the students, the MCA Dept and Vidya college for this philanthropic act of theirs.
