Prithvi – seven-day NSS online special camp – completed successfully

The NSS units of Vidya organised a virtual seven-day camp through Zoom platform during 13 – 19 January 2021. The camp was organized by combining online sessions and offline activities. The major offline activity was OpenStreetMap (OSM) mapping. It was arranged in such a way that volunteers could do OSM mapping in their own panchayaths. Even though most of the sessions were online, volunteers participated in all the events with full involvement and made the program a great success.

OpenStreetMap (OSM) is a collaborative project to create a free editable map of the world. The geodata underlying the map is considered the primary output of the project.

On every day, there were cultural programs from 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm

conducted in the Zoom platform.

Day 1 : 13/01/2021

On the first day of the camp, the volunteers were divided into 10 groups and general rules to be followed were discussed by Mr Cinto P A, Programme Officer. An ice breaking session was arranged for volunteers after group formation. It was led by Mr Anil M, former programme officer, and Mr Vishnu P C, senior NSS volunteer.

Day 2 : 14/01/2021

The offline activity for the day was garden setting. Volunteers were asked to set up a small garden in their home and upload the images through Google form. The official inauguration of the camp was done at 5 pm on the same day. Mr Shoby T R, Velur Gramapachayath President inaugurated the camp virtually. Dr Saji C B, Principal, Mr Ratheesh, Mr. Vipinkrishna (Thrissur-Palakkad Regional Coordinators) and Mr Ratheesh S (Convener OSM mass awarness programme) participated in the programme. After the inauguration session, OSM training was conducted by Mr Vysakh R K (Mapathon Kollam District Coordinator).

Day 3 : 15/01/2021

Offline activity for the day was OSM mapping. In the afternoon session, training on LED bulb making was conducted.  The resource person for the training was Ms Shegi Prakash, Trade instructor, ECE Dept.

Day 4 : 16/01/2021

Offline activity for the day was OSM mapping. After OSM mapping, a blood donation awareness talk was arranged. The resource person for the talk was Mr Ajithan P, Manager HDFC Bank, Thrissur, who is the winner of Govt State Award in the year 2019 for highest number of blood donations.

Day 5 : 17/01/2021

The offline activity for the day was field survey related to COVID 19. Volunteers were asked to survey a minimum of 10 houses. All the volunteers actively participated in the survey. At 5pm,  a talk on agriculture for engineers was conducted. The session was led by Mr Manoj A N , Assistant Director of Agriculture at Chavakkad.

Day 6 : 18/01/2021

The main highlight of the day was the OSM field work and presentation of magazine and survey report. Volunteers presented their contribution towards camp magazine and field survey report group wise.

Day 7 : 19/01/2021

Valedictory function and feedback session were conducted.
