The Mechanical Engineering Association (MEA) organized a webinar on “SAE Awareness and Role of Professional Bodies in Engineering” on 9 February 2021. The speaker was Mr Francis Augustine Joseph, Managing Committee Member, SAE India Southern Section, Engg. Education Board Member, SAE India, Faculty Member at Carmel Polytechnic College, Alappuzha.
The program was organized with the intention of creating awareness in students about the benefits of joining the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) chapter which was going to be started in Vidyas shortly. The webinar began at 7.00 PM through online mode using Zoom platform. Dr Rakesh Hari, faculty in charge of MEA delivered the welcome address. Dr N Ramachandran (Prof and Head, ME Dept) gave presidential address. Mr R Shankar (AP, ME Dept) introduced the chief guest to the audience.
The main speaker in his talk discussed topics such as the new higher education policy introduced by the Government, importance of skill acquisition, relevance of getting associated with professional bodies during a professional course, the vital role of communication skills in professional career, etc. He highlighted the SAE vision, its major attractions, the various activities of SAE in which students could get involveed, scope for internships and jobs etc. It was followed by an interactive session with a few faculty members and students posing queries for which clarifications were given. The student representative Mr Sreehari Sasikumar delivered the vote of thanks.
