AICTE-Vidya Student Induction Programme concludes

The AICTE mandated Student Induction Programme, which had a great start with a grand inaugural ceremony on 22 November 2021, concluded with a valedictory function on 27 November 2021. All the newly admitted students and their parents attended the inaugural function which was conducted in the online mode via the Zoom platform. Here is an overview of the various activities and components conducted as part of the Induction Programme.

Stress management and relaxation techniques

This session was handled by Mr Anil Paul (AP, ME Dept), an active Sameeksha member, on 23 November 2021 from 11.15 am to 12.45 pm. The ideas which are related to stress and that were talked about in the session included topics such as various stressors, “identify oneself as adult or child”, “mild stress as a requirement”, “eustress”, “fight or flight”, “new responsibilities”, “what next in life?”, “stressors change life” and “panic attack”. The relaxation techniques that were presented included exercises for building confidence and stress release, importance of remaining focused, understanding changes in education scenario especially in the new normal, loving and accepting oneself deeply and completely.

Drug abuse and addiction

This was conducted as an invited talk by Dr Sebind Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry, Government Medical College, Thrissur on 24 November 2021 from 1.30 pm to 3 pm. He talked about the danger of drug abuse, bio-psycho-social causes and reward pathway in brains, Muller line illusions, ADHD and how to heal from the addiction, how to manage and eliminate anxiety, stress and anger management techniques, meaning and purpose of life.

Cyber Security

This session was conducted on 25 November 2021 from 10.45 am to 12.15 pm. The resource person was Mr Santhosh K S, Assistant Police Sub-Inspector, who is an expert in cyber security. During the course of the session, he discussed various case studies related to debit card cloning, KeyLogger, SMS spoofing, call spoofing, ransomware, cyber stalking, picture morphing, social trolling, profile hacking, online games, job call letter, deep fakes, dating website and camera hacking.

Valedictory Function

The valedictory function of the induction programme was conducted online on 27 November 2021.

Ms Akhila R, Assistant Professor, EEE Dept and Secretary, Sameeksha welcomed all to the function. Dean Academics, Dr Sudha Balagopalan presided the function and Vice Principal, Dr. V.N. Krishnachandran addressed the audience and explained in detail the “Rules and Regulations of Vidya” and how Vidya is different from other engineering colleges.

Students of various branches gave their feedback about the programme. They shared the experiences and how the one week induction programme had been a wonderful journey towards their entry to Vidya. Mr Alex Chacko C, Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering and Convenor, Sameeksha proposed the vote of thanks.
