Vidya hosts Edu Mithra Indian Space Science Olympiad 2023 and Space Safari

Vidya serves as a perfect platform to inspire and encourage the next generation to explore new frontiers and make them inquisitive towards science.

M/s Edu Mithra is constantly working to develop young little scientists intellectually and to nurture their thirst for knowledge. Indian Space Science Olympiad (ISSO), a national level competitive exam is purely for students who are living in India. Edu Mithra conducted a nationwide quiz competition on Astronomy,Space Science & Technology christened ‘Indian Space Science Olympiad (ISSO) 2023 and Space Safari’ for school students from classes 5 to 12. 225 children from all states participated in the camp.

The final selection process which was consisted of 3 days Offline Space Science Workshop and an offline exam was held in Vidya during 27-29 December 2023 under the auspices of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Center (IEDC). Prabuddha Basu (Maharashtra), Mahin Qureshi (Maharashtra), Srinath Reddy (Telangana), Kaushik Das (West Bengal),Anai Mathur(Telangana) and K Harishiva (Tamil Nadu) won the first positions in the competitive examination in Junior, Senior and Super Senior categories respectively. Ayushmann Das (Haryana), Mia P Shine (Kerala) and Vishwajit Singh (Punjab) bagged the second positions and the third positions.

The winners were awarded a Newtonian mirror telescope.

Dr Saji C B (Principal, VAST) inaugurated the event which was presided over by Ms Unnimaya (Director,EDU Mitra). Mr V P Balagangadharan (Former ISRO Scientist) was the chief guest. Mr Saneesh C K (Managing Director , Edu Mitra) announced the winners of the competition. Methil Komalankutty, Shamsuddeen, Atul, Agasha, Seema and Padmanabhan were present on the occasion.

Activities like sky observation, telescope making, water rockets, star hunting and many discussions and debates took place regarding Indian space science.Mr V P Balagangadharan (Former ISRO Scientist), Dr. N. Shaji, Prof. Anand Narayanan, T. M. Manosh, Sarath Prabhav, Greeshma Mohan and S Anurag led the classes. Parents and students from all states of India including Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir attended the valedictory session with great fervor .

The event was co-ordinated by Mr Anil M (IEDC Nodal Officer and Asst Prof, ECE Dept) with the support of IEDC student volunteers Athul Krishna C S (S7, ME Dept), Bincy C (S7, ME Dept),DJeeva H M (S7, ECE Dept), Vismaya N Sasi (S7, ECE Dept), Diya A J (S7, CE Dept) and Sneha M S(S7, CE Dept).
