Vidya unites to create a vibrant tapestry of Onam celebration

Onam is an occasion of celebration and reflection with deep spiritual significance.In view of the devastating natural calamity that struck Wayanad district recently , Vidya Staff Club  initially thought of  cancellation  Onam celebration. But as we know, Onam always fosters a sense of unison amidst the staff members’ multicultural fabric. Hence the Executive Members of Staff Club  finally took the decision to celebrate  and showcase the beauty of our rich cultural tapestry on 12 September 2024 .
The celebrations started with setting up of an attractive “Pookalam” – floral decorations which was the trademark of Onam and the loadstar of all eyes and camera lenses.From floral decorations to vibrant cultural performances, the Members showcased the essence of Onam while nurturing a purity  of unity. Thes artistic Onappattu Group Song Competition performances symbolically reflected the Onam spirit of concord and happiness while also further enhancing the festive nature of the event by making it fun for the audience. The Dept of CE and Applied Science emerged as first and second place respectively .
The function started with a prayer by Ms Riya PD (Asst Prof, AIML Dept), Sinda P Xavier Asst Prof, AIML Dept) and Ms Riya Asst Prof, AIML Dept),   that that added ideal pitch and colour to the festival.Ms Jemy Jose Kakkassery  (Staff Club Secretary and Asst Prof, ECE Dept) welcomed the gathering. The onam greetings conveyed by Dr Sunitha C (Principal), Mr Suresh Lal (Executive Director) and  Mr Asokan E G ( Trust Co-ordinator) presented a canvas for the vibrancy of this beloved vibrant festival. Ms Neenu Thomas  (former Staff Club Secretary, Asst Prof,EEE Dept) proposed  vote of thanks. The executive committee members of former Staff Club were honored with a big round of applause for their dedication and vibrant activities that made the Staff Club active . The Executive Committee of Staff Club 2024-25 was presented to the audience .
Thiruvathirakali performed by housekeeping staff members (Ms Ligi, Ms Josepheena, Ms Sujitha, Ms Jiji, Ms Mini and Ms Sonia) up to the conventional beat of Onam presented  sense to every proceeding by providing an element of soul to the celebrations.The performers of different cultural events from the departments of AIML, CE, CSE and ECE joyously performed in  the stage , making spectacular gestures and movements that represented a remarkable and amazing display of the celebration. The  melodies performed by  Dr  S Swapna Kumar (Prof and Head, ECE Dept) and  Dr Sajay K R (Asso Prof, MCA) that kept alive the venue alive with  every emotion and happiness . With impeccable presentation of a poem written and recited by Mr K Vijayanarayanan  (Library Attendant)  created  a voiced and writing proficiency  that   gave enchantment for the listeners.
Onam sadya- the Onam Feast is an indispensable and most awaited aspect of Onam. The special gastronomic delight was enjoyed by everyone present .The games sessions were more than just  competitions, but  Staff Members did activities that brought  them closer. Mr Pameela and Mr Sangeeth  (Asst Prof, ME Dept) selected as winners of the Lucky Draw Competition. Mr Kiran Babu A R (Asst Prof, CE Dept) and Anooja V S (Asst Prof, EEE Dept) grabbed the prize.Ms Surabhi M S (Assistant Librarian) served as the  master of ceremonies.
The  Editorial Team of  News & Events joins the entire Vidya fraternity in wishing  hearty appreciation to all members of Vidya on the colorful conduct of Onam 2024 that paints strength of solidarity and   a picture of harmony that holds the entire Vidya !!!
