ECE Dept organizes FDP on ‘Advancing Intelligent Automation : The Convergence of IoT, ML & Robotics’
With the aim of providing participants with an opportunity to gain insights into current technologies and explore their practical applications in the field of engineering, a Five-Day Online Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Advancing Intelligent Automation: The Convergence of IoT, ML & Robotics” was organized by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, in association with the IQAC, IE(I) and ISTE VAST Chapters, from 02-06 December 2024.
The programme focused on emerging technologies such as IoT, Robotics, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Python, Computer Vision, Image Processing, and Analog IC Design.
02 December 2024 – Day 1
The first session, “Introduction to IoT : Sensing and Actuation (Electric Vehicle & Robotics)” was handled by Dr. Neethu Varghese (Christ College of Engineering, Irinjalakuda).The session introduced the basic concepts of IoT, sensing, and actuation with examples from electric vehicles and robotics.
The second session, “Art of Technical Writing using LaTeX: Drafting Journal Papers” was handled by Dr. S. Swapna Kumar, (Prof, ECE Dept) The session introduced the use of LaTeX for preparing technical papers and journal articles.
03 December 2024 – Day 2
Dr. Krishnapriya S (Christ College of Engineering, Irinjalakuda) handled the session on “Analog IC Design Fundamentals and Simulation Flow using Cadence Tool Suite.” The session introduced the basics of Analog IC Design and simulation using Cadence tools.
The second session, “Revolutionizing Robotics with Evolutionary Optimization,” was handled by Dr. Abitha M. A (Asso Prof, ECE Dept) The session explained the use of optimization techniques in robotic applications.
04 December 2024 – Day 3
The first session, “Introduction to Modelling and Simulation of Robot Systems,” was handled by Dr. Rakesh R Warier (NIT Calicut). The session introduced robot modelling and simulation and explained their importance in developing robotic systems.
The second session, “Introduction to Python Programming,” was handled by Ms. Jemy Jose Kakkassery (Asst Prof, ECE Dept) and Mr. Sojan Francis P, (Asst Prof, ECE Dept) . The session introduced Python programming and its applications in engineering and intelligent systems.
05 December 2024 – Day 4
Dr. Aswani N (PES University, Bangalore) handled the session on “Unlocking Insights: Advanced Image Processing with Computer Vision.” The session introduced image-processing and computer-vision techniques used in intelligent applications.
The second session, “Mastering Neural Networks: A Practical Guide to RNNs, LSTMs, and GRUs with Python” was handled by Mr. Sivadasan E. T (Asso Prof, CSE Dept,VAST, Thrissur) and Dr. Shameem S (Asso Prof, CSE Dept,VAST, Thrissur). The session introduced different neural-network models and their implementation using Python.
06 December 2024 – Day 5
The final session, “Exploring Python’s Potential: Mastering Machine Learning and Image Processing Applications,” was handled by Dr. Kavitha D (CMR Institute of Technology, Bangalore). The session explained the use of Python for Machine Learning and Image Processing applications.
Overall, the FDP provided participants with basic and practical knowledge of emerging technologies in IoT, Robotics, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Python, Computer Vision, and Image Processing. The programme helped participants understand how these technologies can be combined to develop intelligent and automated engineering applications. It also supported faculty members and researchers in updating their technical knowledge for teaching, research, and professional development.
