FOSSers attend Wiki Conference Kerala 2024 

The FOSSers Club of  Vidya aims  to  offer insights into the lively world of open source software.

The Wiki Conference Kerala 2024 was held at the College of Climate Change and Environmental Science, Kerala Agricultural University,Thrissur, on 28 December  2024 celebrating the 22^nd  anniversary of Malayalam Wikipedia.The event brought together Wikimedia enthusiasts, academics, and researchers to discuss the role of Wikipedia in regional languages and its impact on culture and technology.

A team from Vidya, attended the conference as part of the FOSSers Club. The group, consisting of one faculty Mr Nisanth P (Asst Prof, AIML Dept) and 4 students K S Samnaya (S3, AIML Dept), Lakshmi (S6, AIML Dept), Nivin P Louis (S6, AIML Dept), Abhiram P S (S6, AIML Dept). The conference featured a variety of talks, presentations, and interactive panels on topics such as increasing regional language content on Wikipedia, community engagement, and the role of AI in content creation.

The conference provided valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities of maintaining Wikipedia in regional languages like Malayalam. Attendees gained a deeper understanding of how technology can support language preservation and community-driven content creation. The event also offered opportunities for networking and collaboration, particularly in enhancing participation in the Malayalam Wikipedia community.
